People say, love is like a magnet; two people with different personalities to stir up the chemistry. I won’t say that its wrong, because my previous romance was full with diversity. And without a doubt, I can say that it exhausted me to the point of depression, to the point where I would like to have more monotonous colour like me.

That’s what hanging on my shoulders as the day comes to an end, and I just arrived at home. After I murmured my greetings that was immediately swallowed by the kitchen sounds, I drag myself up the wooden stairs. Each creak sounds like music to my ears, as if I’m climbing up to heaven and greeted by the pleasing familiar sound. Even I don’t hate the loud sound from my door, even though it never fails to alert my parents when I stay up late. I appreciate everything, for it made me feels like home.

Not only the clinking and creaking, I also loved the silence when I’m in my room. That relaxing pause seems to shut everything from the outside. But what made my heart grow lighter is his voice; his sweet cheerful voice without any lies that usually laced to his words.

  “Welcome back!”

His figure always sprawled on my bed, every night; whether watching a volleyball match, or practicing his upper pass with the stripped ball. But he always stops whatever he’s doing to engulfed me with his hazel eyes, that somehow transferred warmth to my cold heart.

  “I’m back..”

I could see the wrinkles on his forehead when I let my voice slipped; tired and heavy.

  “Something happened?”

“Yeah, just-“ I paused, confused with what should I say, “I just broke up with him.”

“Oh, isn’t that good?” his smile is back.

“Yeah, it’s great. That’s.. What I always wanted.. Right?”

My declaration somehow turned into a question, because my heart is the heaviest with the heart breaking pain.

“Well..” he sets his phone down on the nightstand, “according to our conversation some nights ago, it’s what we believe good for you.”

“So smile. Tonight is your victory.”

The smile from his luscious lips that usually kiss me good night really edged me to do the same. But the aching beating heart of mine, it seems impossible to do so.

I turned head to the side, avoiding his blinding features as I bit my lips. “My heart felt heavy, Tooru..”

I could see him pout from the edge of my eyes. “Why do you need to be sad to leave someone like him. You already have me..” he muttered.

I can’t help but feel the surge of guilt. It must be feel bad to be in his position; to be just a fling, a refreshment as I continued my life. But he stayed, even after every convincing words that I said; he always somehow ended up on my bed, waiting for me to come home.

“How about we go to the top of the list again; about why you broke up with him. So your heart won’t be too heavy?”

I smiled gratefully at him. “Yeah, we can do that. Thank you, Tooru.”

  “Ready? Start!”

“Well he’s..” I pondered with crossing my hands and tap my lips lightly with my pointer finger, “he’s not Chinese, and also not a Christian.”

“Sounds racist, huh?” I said with a joking tone.

Tooru sit up and crossed his legs. “It is, but it’s your parents’ criteria,” he shrugged.

“And no compensation on that,” I end my comment with a forced laugh.

Instead of laughing, Tooru gave me a sad smile. “But that’s not the main reason why you left him, right?”

I bit my bottom lip harder, enough to draw the coppery red liquid out. “He’s.. A jerk isn’t he?” I asked in a hushed tone which he can still hear.

“No doubt about that,” he confirmed my words.

“Am I a jerk magnet or something? It’s the third time,” I’m dying for some refreshments from the serious conversation.

“So I’m one of them?” Tooru pouted in my direction.

“You are, in the first episodes in season one.”

“That’s not true! I’m just a competitive person!”

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever, Great King,” I grinned.

  “So mean!”

I let out a hearty laugh, followed by his. His reaction never fail, to amuse me.

“Hey, come here,” he pats the space beside him.

I let the mattress carry my weight as it dipped down. Tooru’s slender fingers find its way to my ebony strands, combing my tired away as he brings me closer.

“What do you feel when I touch you like this?”

“I feel loved..” I let out a sigh of satisfaction.

“That’s because I didn’t touch-”I can feel his other hand snake down, “-here”, he finishes with a squeeze on my thigh.

It earned a high pitched yelp and a slap on his arm, which he answered with a laugh.

“Not only that. I touched you without any dirty reason,” he kissed the side of my head lovingly.

“Yeah, I can feel that,” I said as my eye lids got heavier.

I wrap my arms around him and snuggle to his chest, ready to really end the day without any pain.

“Tooru?” my voice came out muffled.

  “Yes, princess?”

“Do you..” I hesitate, “love me?”

I could feel his hug gets to the point of bone crushing. “With all of my heart.”

Same birthday, similar personality, but we somehow still have a beautiful story. He’s my home, my heart’s place to rest. Without no doubt, he’s the perfect partner for the rest of my life.

“Now let’s go to bed and look towards a new tomorrow,” he said in a sleepy voice.

“Where I wake up all alone in the embrace of the cold bed. And wait for the end of the say again, only to meet you.”

If only, I can meet Tooru not just in my room, sprawled on my bed.

  If only he’s real.
