The loud ticking is a signal for each hour, each minute, and each second that has gone by. My vocabulary turm I would use, is waste. How school is a complete waste of time. The clicking of pens echos through the room like a ticking time bomb. Pencils scratching the surface of thin slices of wood, leaving behind a grey mineral that can be very poisonous to humans.

I stare out the window, questioning the world around us wondering why we are here today. Living. Breathing. Wondering what is our perpose here on this rock, floating in the darkness in the middle of nowhere. Wondering if there's a god or the devil. Wondering if there's heaven or hell. Wondering if there's mermaids. Leprechauns. Vampires. Werewolfs. Witches. The list can go on honeslty. I could just sit here and day dream or ask the real question from the problem.

What is life?

Life is a strong word just like death. My meaning is a bright spiritual glow that is inside all of us that makes us who we are now. But that is not the technical answer. Life is however, is the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment though changes originating internally. But how do we really know the actual definition of "Life"?

Well that's simple. We dont.

Instead of drifting off somewhere, I decided to pay attention in class so I don't get called for the stupidest shit that I don't know. Mr. Brigston is telling us how if we combine like terms with MC square, we will probably find the answer to the problem. But he's wrong. He's a terrible teacher. I don't even see how he got his job if he doesn't even know the three basic numbers of pie. They probably hired anyone who applied for the job cause this is a cheep school let alone, town. That's Rim of the world high school for you.

The bell rings signaling us to go to our next period. I walked to my locker to take out my English text book and note book then slammed my locker shut, locking it. My butt vibrates then took out my phone reading the text message.

Jay:

'Phoenix!! Where the hell are you? I'm saving you a spot so you better haul your ass over here.'

I grunt in annoyence. I put away my phone but then felt a jolt of pain hit my shoulder. Next thing I knew, I was on the ground with my books scattered everywhere. "Shit," A male voice echos through the halls. "Im sorry, I didnt see--" He stoped in mid sentence. I close my eyes, rubbing my head in the process. "It's fine, I'm just clumsy." I laugh dryly, standing to my feet facing up so I see the dude. A tall boy stands right before me. I can feel his piercing green eyes burn into my blue ones. His brown hazelnut hair is hanging over his forehead; dangling over his eyes just a little.

I shake my head realizing I was gawking. The boy focused on my appearance a while longer, than grins. "Meredith?" He says, surprised. "Where have you been Mer? We've been looking for your reckless ass for months and I find you here, in a small town, in this dusty ass school? What the hell?" He walks over towards my direction then stops immediately in front of me, taking a wiff. "Why do you smell different?" He questions. A deep frown etched into his unusually flawless face.

I knitted my eyebrows together, confusion taking over my face. "What the hell are you talking about?" He looks at me like If I was crazy. Wondering why I would say such things but then he tenses. He stands with no emotion then replys, "Sorry, you just," He pauses then continued, "You look like someone I use to know." He stares at me for another minute then opens his mouth once more.

"Whats your name?"

I kept my gaze on the strange boy, wondering why he wished to know my name.

Why did he want to know anyways?

Why did he think I was someone else?

Do I really look alot like this person?

If so, why have they been looking for 'me'?

In other words, who in the hell is Meredith?

All these questions were building up in my head but with no answers. The boy still locking his eyes on me, expecting an answer. I had a bad vibe from this boy. He had an eerie, cold presence I didn't like and who ever this boy was, he was bad news. I bent down to retrieve my books, one by one than stand up in front of the male, locking his gaze. Shaking my head I managed to comprehend a fully functional sentence. "I have to get to class."

I turned on my heel and stalked away to my next period, leaving behind a very strange and confused boy. I walk into the class room before the bell rings then sat down next to Jayden. I sigh then motion my hand over my shoulder, examining the injury I just got a few moments ago. The pain spreads all over my shoulder, making me wince. For a guy that walks a normal speed through the school hallway, he can really pack a punch. Jayden snaps her head towards my direction with confusion and concern written all over her face. "Hey, what's wrong?"

I shake my head. I was about to respond with an answer, when the door was flung open, revealing a tall muscular boy I've grown familiar with.
