"Emma, sweetie, it's time to get up." Melody's voice rang through the house. "I'm up Mel. Do you know what today is?" I asked excitedly, rushing down the stairs and into the kitchen. "I don't ma'am. Would you please refresh my memory?" She asked a with a grin. "Oh I know you know! Today is the day I turn 18! The day I can go and gamble, hit the clubs, all of the exciting things!" Melody laughs and sets the table for breakfast. "That is why we are having your favorite this morning, pancakes and Nutella toast." God, Melody is the best! She's raised me. She told me my mother died giving birth and that my father died in a hunting trip when I six years old. Melody is the only family I have. We moved around through out my childhood, for as long as I can remember. I don't remember anything past the age of seven. "Emma, quit your day dreaming dear! You have to eat and then off to school. You have something waiting for you when you get ready." Melody said with a grin on her face. As she said that I was eating as fast as I could! It was 7:00 in the morning and school started in an hour. "I'll go upstairs and get ready, then I'll be back down." I hurriedly made my way upstairs and into my room. A very modern set up. A queen sized bed again the window, a dresser on the wall and an attached bathroom. Nothing to special other than the photo that I found in Melody's room one day. A photo of me and who I assumed to be my deceased father hidden in a small box under my bed. I went straight to the bathroom and hopped in the shower, letting the warm water run down my body. When I got out, it happened.
Faster, you have to run faster. If you don't they will get you. They will kill you.
I was running through a forest, or maybe it was the woods. I was running as fast as I could and I had no idea why, no clue who I was running from. There was a stream nearby, close to that was a little safe haven, a place where they could find me. "Help me!! Please help me!" There was a familiar voice, someone I never thought I would here in trouble...
"Emma! If I call you one more time you're not getting your present." Melody's voice rang through the house once more. I snapped out of it and looked in the mirror. A tanned face with deep brown eyes and waved chestnut hair stared back at me. I was average in the beauty area I guess you could say. Standing at 5' 6" in a size 14 with some amazing curves, or I think at least. I put on my school uniform. A dark blue plaid skirt that fell about mid thigh ams a wow button up long sleeve blouse. The beginning of October and it was already getting cold. Grabbing my purple and blue plaid backpack, I was down the stairs. By now it 7:45, hopefully Melody would let me drive to school. You see I have my license, just no car. Melody was okay with me driving, but she wouldn't let me keep her little kia soul. "Hurry child or we'll be late!" I was out the door and then froze. In the driveway was a little blue ford ranger! Oh my gosh! "Is this for real?!" I screamed excitedly. Melody just smiled ear to ear and handed me the keys. "I want you home right after school and then we'll talk about what you can do and where you can go missy." She said sternly. I nodded and hopped in the little truck.
The school was only a few blocks away, thank god. I parked and headed inside. As soon as I hot homeroom, Mrs. Eleanor's calculus class, Aleta jumped on me. "Happy birthday love!! You can finally do almost anything you already do legally! " I chuckled and hugged her back. She has been my best friend for the past two years, working on three. "I know, it's so crazy!" I said with a little sarcasm. "Hey now, don't get all moody on me love." Just them the bell rang which meant class would be starting. "Alright class, today we have a new student joining us. He'll be here shortly, and when he does arrive, please be reasonable." The class all respond with a 'Yes ma'am' as they began to get the book out that we we been using. That's when I felt something change in the room. I could help but look up, and when I did. Everything just stopped. I was looking into the most bathroom blue eyes I have ever seen. "My name is Shayne, it's a pleasure to meet you all." Oh. My. God. Talk about gorgeous! Tanned skin, very well built, a smile to melt for and the softest looking dirty blonde hair I have ever seen. That's when he started walking towards me and took the empty seat next to mine. "It's good to finally meet the infamous Emma." He spoke with a smirk.
