Forest

The hunched figure of Izuru sloped through the forest, still sniffling and clutching his hat.

'Kacchan doesn't think I can be a hero. Mommy doesn't think I can be a hero. What am I then?'

He kicked a rock, and watched it fall slowly into the river.

'Maybe they're right. I am a Deku. I can't even tie my shoes. Wonder what Kacchan's playing right now? I bet Kacchan's winning, cause he always wins.'

A salmon jumped to catch a bug, flailing majestically in the air.

'Kacchan's amazing. He can tie shoes, he can write kanji, and he can do math better than me. He always gets perfect on tests, always right.'

The salmon swum up stream to join the others.

'Always right. He's always right'

He thought back to what Kacchan said.

"You're a Deku. You know, that means useless."

'Always right- huh?

What's that?'

There was a soft glow coming from a thicket of trees, just up above. Curious, Izuku carefully climbed over branches and between bushes. As he walked, the light got brighter, and his head started hurting, so much so that it brought more tears to his already red eyes.

'Ow, why does my head hurt? Why is it so bright? Where's Mommy, I'm scared, Mommy!'

He shielded  his eyes to protect himself from. . . a glowing rock?

When he looked up again, the bright sky wasn't bright anymore. It turned to a dusty orange, spreading out over the black smoky fog. The forest was still there, but outside of the meteor, it had turned into a firefly warzone. People that Izuku didn't know were fighting, and it was really scary, so he started to cry again.

However, the grass near him was green and healthy, like it was in the forest he thought he knew. And the meteor was so green, and pretty, and... he wanted to touch it. Was this one of those meteors that the teachers said started quirks?

'I really want to touch it.'

That was the only thought in his head as his little five-year old body trudged through the chaos among him, towards the green shiny stone.

"Izuku! Please don't-" A voice said among the fighting group, but it vanished as soon as it came- along with a shadowy blur.

"Izu- stay away from it it's-" Another person yelled.

"Izuku, don't come near that thing! It's -" Yelled another.

Izuku was dead to all of them.

'It's so pretty, like Mommy's hair. I'll bring it home and show her. Maybe she'll forgive me for yelling.'

His eyes glowed, but just as he was about to touch it-

"Izuku!"

He heard that person. He knows that person. He knows it was him, even if they sounded a little different.

'That's Kacchan.'

—-

"Izuku?"

Kacchan was really tall now. And had lots of big muscles, and.... a hero costume!

'Kacchan's just playing with the others. He's not supposed to be playing that rough though....'

"Kacchan? C-Can I play what you're playing?" Izuku  asked, shaking and not looking Kacchan the eyes.

"Why are you so small, why -why are you here?" Kacchan, spat, sounding... scared?

 'But, Kacchan's never scared?'

"Why are you scared, Kacchan? I'm just bringing home a pretty stone to Mommy?" Izuku asked, reaching for it.

"No! Don't touch it, Izuku!" Kacchan yelled. His arm was red, and he was limping, and clutching it. He was slowly walking towards him, but he couldn't seem to get very far.

'Kacchan could always run the fastest? What happened?'

Now that Izuku looked around, there was a lot of red, everywhere. On the ground, in people's hair, on people, on the forest, and on Kacchan.

But not in his bubble, and not on the meteor.

'Oh right, the stone! Why does Kacchan not like, that stone? Doesn't he know it's for Mommy?'

"Don't touch it Izuku! Just... just come here! Come home!" Kacchan yelled.

'Kacchan's scary when he yells'

That just brought more tears to Izuku's eyes.

"I don't want to go home! Mommy said I was useless! Kacchan said I was useless!" Izuku cried, "I'm useless! They don't want me!"

"You're not useless Izuku. You're very useful, okay? You help a lot of people." Hero Kacchan said more quietly than Kacchan did.

'Kacchan's different.'

Kacchan tripped on a stray branch and fell down, and but he pushed himself back up, causing some red marks to get bigger. He yelled out in pain.

"Come-" Kacchan gasped. "Come back. We can... play in the sandbox like we used to... and play heroes and villain. I'll let you... play the hero. We can be heroes... together. I'll-"

He slipped again, this time in into the dirt. He screamed, but pushed himself back up.

"I'll give you... my All Might special poster... the one you always wanted... I'll-"

There was definitely water in his eyes this time. Kacchan was crying.

"I'll help you tie... your shoes... and we... can play... every day. Please, Izuku, come home..."

Kacchan slipped again, and he couldn't bring himself up this time.

"Please, Deku, the world needs you."

'Deku'

"Deku?"

Kacchan, with barely any strength left, looked up and realized his mistake.

Five -year old Izuku's eyes glowed. Then his body shook.

"I'm... not a... Deku..."

"Izuku-!" Kacchan yelled, trying to reach for him.

"I'm not useless!" Izuru yelled, reaching and touching the meteor.

The world shook and glowed, fading with Izuku's eyes.
