The last of her kind
The last known existing Vesuvian Pegasus
She lay by the pond, drinking the moonlit water. Her magic was at its peak. If she focused, she could hold her transformation a little longer.Placing her hooves in the water, she lay down once more, allowing the water to wash over her body. She closed her eyes, and breathed deeply.
When she opened them, water bubbled around her, soft red hair flowing through the ripples and bubbles. She pulled herself to the surface, her pale yellow eyes lit up in the moonlight. She glanced around, covering her naked body with her large wings, cradling herself in the warmth.
It was no surprise that she was far more magical than normal Vesuvian Pegasi would have been. And as far as she knew, she was the last one.
She was safe.
Until the shouting came.<><><>
The teal hooves of a pale blue pegasus seemed like a blur as the creature galloped faster and faster throughout the forest. Past the hut of the human that fed her everyday.
Past the river where her youngest sister had died.
Past the tree she had first broken her wing on when she was a foal.
Past all the places marking something in her past.
Leaping over a log, she landed on the base of the large rock, galloping up towards the top where she could safely fly away.
Spreading her wings, she leapt off the edge of the stone, neighing softly at the sound of freedom.
Until she was dragged backwards down to the ground.
Struggling, she kicked her hooves and flapped her wings, desperate to reach an escape. More ropes had been thrown around her neck, and around her hooves, paralyzing her and preventing her from walking.
They had caught her.
They had caught the last pegasus of Vesuvia.
She would go without complaint for the time being.
But she would not go without retribution.
