I pulled up into the parking lot in one of the employee parking spaces. I cut the engine off and sat there for a moment debating weather I should go in and get it over with, or make a u-turn back home. ‘I really don’t feel like being here.’ I thought to myself. I expected Ivery, my wolf, to comment but she’s been quiet all morning. Strangely.
“Ivery?” I asked.
‘Hmm?’ She answers quietly.
“Are you alright? You’ve been unusually quiet today.” I mention.
She stays silent for a moment before whispering, ‘I’m ok. Just feeling a little different, that’s all.’ she says. I ponder what she had just said for a minute.
“Good different or bad different?” I ask skeptically. Again, she was silent. And as I was just about to drop the whole conversation, thinking she wasn’t in the mood, her voice came in softly saying, ‘You’ll just have to wait and see.' And like that, she disappeared to the back of my mind.
I sigh and grab my things which consists of my phone, wallet, pen, notepad, and uniform which was only a red apron that read “Joe’s” on it. When I first started working here, I thought we had to wear ugly uniforms like slacks and a button up shirt or something but Mr. Joe, the owner, said he wanted us to be comfortable, so he let us wear casual, but appropriate, clothes of our choosing. Which I am grateful for.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the laughter of drunk men and women, and the strong stench of alcohol. It literally felt like my nostrils were about to shrivel up, and fall off. And me being a werewolf only made it stronger. I had to stop and grab the wall for support while I waited for the dizziness to fade. ‘The perks of being a waiter.’ I thought. After about five minutes, I pushed off of the wall and headed to the back, ignoring the wolf whistles I was receiving from some of the men, and the scowls and glares from the women. I just rolled my eyes at both. How could people drink alcohol so early in the morning?
I mean we haven't even started breakfast yet. oh well. This diner has no limits anyway.
“Hey peanut!” I hear when I enter the staff room. I looked up to see Harvey tying up his shoes and apron.
“Peanut? I’m only a few inches shorter than you Harv!” I let out a fake hurt voice. He chuckled shaking his head, “That’s what short people say.” He replies. I hit him and sent him a playful glare. Although he was right.
Towering over my 5’4 stature, was his 6’2 figure. Harvey wasn’t in bad shape for his age. Wow. That sounds weird, coming from me. But it was true. Him being one of the pact warriors, of course he would be a little fit. He has dark brown hair and blue eyes that make me think of the sky during a sunny day. He also has the most beautiful smile that I have ever seen. When Harvey smiles, you know everythings going to be alright. It always reaches his eyes. You can never be upset for too long when you come around him. He just has this peaceful atmosphere around him. And my friend Chase, (Harvey’s son), is a spitting image of him. Just younger and a little smaller.
We laughed and joked for little bit then decided we needed to get to work. He put on his favorite cooking hat and I tied on my apron and put my hair in a ponytail which reached the middle of my back now. He headed to the kitchen while I headed to the tables.
I saw a table with a group of couples who looked to be on double dates. They had yet to be served, so I made my way over there. “Here we go.” I mumbled to myself.
“Hello, welcome to Joe’s. My name is Candise and I’ll be your waiter this evening. Can I start you all off with some drinks?” I said with my signature fake smile.

(8 hours later)
I stood there at a table with an old couple, waiting for them to give me their drinks which they were taking forever on. While they were still debating between water or cranberry juice, I took the chance to examine the diner. It was usually packed after three. But by the looks of it, I think I might be getting off early tonight.
"Order up!" I hear Harvey announce. I sigh and excuse myself from the table I had been serving. 'Another slow night' I thought as I went to the counter to get the food from Harvey.
"Slow night huh?" he asked.
"Yeah. Ya know." I sighed out.
He just chuckles and gives me the food. "Don't worry, we all have em. Hey, could you deliver this to that gentleman over in the corner booth?" At that, I turned to see who he was referring to and let me tell you, my head couldn't have turned fast enough!
There sitting in the corner booth was none other than Jason Harrison. I know what you're thinking,"What's so special about this guy?" Well let's just say that he's the most powerful and ruthless Alpha in the United States. And as I came out of my spaced out state, I found his eyes penetrating into my own.
All of a sudden, the room froze. All I could see was him. I felt my wolf jumping for joy. ‘What’s happening?’ I ask her worriedly while at the same time, keeping my eyes on him and him doing the same. ‘It’s him, it’s him!!!’ she exclaims over and over again.
‘Who?! Who’s him?’ I ask once again, a little louder this time.
‘He’s here! He’s actually here!’ she screams excitedly.
That’s when I began to get frustrated. ‘Ivery! What the fuck is going on dammit ?!’ I yell still keeping my eyes firmly planted on him.
‘Don’t you get it?! It’s-’, I cut her off, ‘If you say HIM one more time.’ I warned. The thing she says next wasn’t that, but the words that I had been treading for a while now.
‘Our mate. It’s our mate.’ she says in a proud tone.
My words on the other hand were, “Holy shit.” I all but whispered to myself. But he must have heard it because after I said that, a triumphant smirk played on those mouth watering lips of his.
Damn him.
