Two pink hilltops
cast a skewed hue on the still bedding below.
Sparse graying hairs
blurt out the turbulence your chin undergoes.
The charitable floods
swallow confidence from your eyes by the gallon.
Your strained smile
is like peeling a scab cell by decaying cell.

Fun Fact: This piece was originally called "Crushed And Reactions" but I didn't like the title too much. I wrote this poem after visiting with one of my military leadership to inform him that I was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. This fact is not so fun as it was a painful conversation to be had, but this poem was what I saw of his reaction when I told him.
