I've cast a spell, Redfeather realized with horror.  Pyrope stabbed Redfeather in the heart, but all she felt was a tiny pinch. I'm losing my soul by the second!

A raindrop plopped on her head. The sky was stormy. "She made a storm!" one of the SkyWings shrieked.

"No, I didn't" Redfeather yelled. "Er- not that spell."

Pyrope hissed. The audience gasped. Potoo winced. Pyrope glared at Redfeather. "You idiot!" he roared. The SkyWing turned to face the crowd. "She's already cast a spell! She'll lose her soul and kill us all!"

The crowd screamed again. Carmine just watched bitterly.

"Do your job right!" she hissed. "Both of you!" she shoved Pyrope aside and launched herself at Redfeather.

She gasped and dodged just as Carmine landed. Redfeather spread her wings and took off into the cloudy sky.

"COME BACK, ANIMUS!" shouted Carmine. She launched into the sky chasing after the dragonet. Pyrope followed her, along with a few of the adult dragons in the audience.

Redfeather disappeared in the stormy mountains as the rain pelted her. "Where is she?" she heard Pyrope ask.

"Find her, then!" Carmine roared.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning illuminated the mountain range. Redfeather glanced back and saw the SkyWings chasing after her. She yelped and flapped her wings as fast as she could.

She could still hear the roars of Queen Carmine. Redfeather suddenly felt a burning heat skim the tip of her wings.

"But I t-thought- I thought that she was invulnerable!" someone said, flabbergasted.

"I guess only to spears." grinned Pyrope.

Oops.

More fire was thrown in Redfeather's direction. She soared even faster, heading deeper into the MudWing kingdom. The SkyWings were still chasing after her.

Redfeather was crying. She had been flying for three hours without stopping. Most SkyWings had strong wings and could fly for days, but Redfeather was still a dragonet.

The pain was real.

She decided that if she wanted to lose them, she had to fly deeper into the forest. Soon she was completely hidden away in the dark evergreen forest.
