Today was the day I got to go get my big brother from the train station. I just hope he can get dad to lighten up a bit and maybe he can help me with those two little pains I call sisters.
"Hey Dad can I borrow the car?" I called out to him as I was still putting my sneakers on
"Only if you take Kelly and Melissa with you and drop them off at netball practice." he replied
Ah dam it, I thought.
"Yeah I can do that dad, anything else you want me to grab?" I called back to him
"Not that I can think of angel cakes, just be careful with my car." he replied
"I will." I said back to him
"KELLY, MELISSA! I'm leaving in five and if you are not in the car when I am, I'll leave you behind!" I screamed up the stairs
" we are on our way down Angela, no need to stress, gees." Melissa yelled back
I quietly chuckled to my self as I walked out the door to get the car out the shed.
As I pulled the car out Melissa and Kelly were waiting to get in, once we were all in and ready to go, I slowly backed down the drive way and drove to the train station to pick up our big brother.
We pulled into the parking lot at the train station and standing there waiting was my big brother Ian dressed in his favorite jeans and heavy metal top.
I used to sit with him and his friends and listen to his favorite band Metallica and I blame him for my love of heavy metal and rock music.
I jumped out the car and threw myself into his open arms and just like always he crushed me in a bear hug, he gave Melissa and Kelly a quick hug before jumping in the passenger seat.
As we drove out of the parking lot he was asking the girls how school and stuff was and they just gave their usual "yeah ok I guess" answers. I pulled into the netball parking lot and dropped them off.
"So how is Dad doing?" asked Ian
"I think he will be ok, but I think he will miss Robert more that mum" I replied with a half hearted laugh
We drove back home in silence with each of us thinking about our poor dad and his broken heart. When we finally arrived Dad was out in the garden raking up leaves and grass clippings. I pulled the car into the drive way and jumped out and called out to Dad,
"Hey Dad, look who I found wondering around"
Dad looked up and his face lit up and he looked happy for the first time in what felt like ages, even though it had only been a few days since Mother had left.
"Ian!! My boy you're home! God it's good to see you. Wait what are you doing home? Shouldn't you be working?" asked Dad
"I put in for a few weeks off Dad, I figured I didn't get time off when Nanna died so I'd take it now so I can come help you out." Ian replied
"Angela did you ring your brother and tell him to come home?" Dad asked me with a scowl on his face
"No I did not ring him and tell him to come home. I rang him and told him what happened between you and Mum."I said
"Dad I already had the time booked off when Angela rang me." Ian said jumping to my defense.
"well then, I guess we should probably think about what we are going to do today then." dad said sheepishly
*************
Dad and I were sitting on the back porch catching up with Ian and finding out what it was like living in the city when Melissa and Kelly came home from netball.
"Daddy we're home." said Melissa
"What are we doing for dinner?" asked Kelly
"Well seeing as Ian is home for a few days how about we go out to eat?" replied dad
"Sounds great!" we all said at the same time
We all went to go get ready to head down to the local pub for dinner.
When we got to the restaurant part of the pub we found a table and sat down to look at the menu.
" Seeing as its a special occasion you girls can order what ever you want, not just a salad" said Dad
We all laughed and went about ordering dinner.
After dinner had been brought out to us we were all laughing and joking whilst eating, Ian turned to Dad and asked him what he was going to do now that our mother had left us.
"I'm not to sure at the moment Ian, I was thinking we all need a change." said Dad
"What do you mean by a change Dad?" Asked Ian
"Well, I was thinking of maybe all of us moving to the city." Replied Dad
"YES!" I screamed
I have been wanting to move to the city for years, ever since Ian left to work there.
"Ok well calm down Angel cakes cause we have a lot to sort out before we can move there." Said Dad
"I know but I'm just so excited" I replied.
As we sat eating our food all I could think about was all the cool things I could do once we moved to the city.
