Laura’s POV

When mom’s scram shot through the house my mind was running around. Was she hurt, or did she hurt dad? I need to get out of this house! Right now . . . In one whole day that I’ve lived in this house all it’s done is put all this weight on me. I just have the urge to leave.

I paced around the room like an insane person suffering from anxiety. Looking around the room I slowly walked to the window. It let in rays of light that made my face feel so warm. My eyes devoured all the details of the window and its surroundings. There was a small latch. My face swarmed with joy, and my hands slowly went towards it. My fingers slipped into the underside of the cold metal. As I lifted it there was a long eerie sound. To my surprise, the window opened itself and a breeze was let in. It really does feel good that I can at least get out of this house.

I slowly stretched out my legs. I figured it would be easier to get my legs out first. Once I was on the roof it finally came to me . . . how am I going to get down from here? I decided to look about the roof for a way down. My eyes peered over the edge. It’s not that high up. My hands clutched the roof and I let my legs dangle. I whipped my head back for a second look of the ground and I closed my eyes then just let go.

The fear that once held me went away and the ground made me feel at home. My parents will continue to fight till the end of the world so I might as well make use of this time.

There are still unexplored regions of this great house. You can’t just go and explore it all in one day! Might as well take your time and enjoy the adventure, so off I go into a world of mystery. “Parents . . . await my return . . . if I decide to return.” I told myself jokingly. Whatever this house has in store for me it best be good. Old houses like this usually have killer backgrounds in the movies. I suppose I’ll find out right now.

The steps out here were soothing because of the cool grass. I never knew the grass could ever be so refreshing. It was cool and made my feet tingle. My feet kept dragging and I decided to take a look up from my shoes. Out in the back there was a great open field full of wheat and wild flowers. There was also a large sprinkler system that ran through the whole field. I guess grandma and grandpa were wheat farmers, or maybe they were bakers. Either of those two seems legitimate.

From my current distance the wheat looked about two feet tall but once I walked over I soon found out that the wheat was as tall as me.

I had just walked away from the fields and went to a little patio not to far away and took notice of the floor. It was a decorative tile. The table was made purely out of glass and it was very inviting. I could just imagine myself sitting here and enjoying the great outdoors.

As I was going to sit down in one of he chairs I noticed a small path that would continue my current adventure. The path was made out of dirt but it was nice and well kept. The way I knew that it was a path was because once you started in the direction you would meet shrubs on both sides of you, guiding you farther into an unknown land. This walk was nice because the sky was clear and blue, the sun didn’t just beat on you either it was kind of just there. I stood still for a moment and I felt the small breeze, it carried over a nice scent that peaked my interests. This very scent practically picked me up and carried me over the path.

I walked farther along and to my left and right were these fountains that looked as if they were being well maintained as of today. There was water pouring out of both of them, transparent water. And I walked over to further inspect it, I peered within the basin and there were colorful river bed rocks. I looked up at the fountain again and found out there were benched behind, they sat there inside of a concave box of shrubs. I sat down and just stared at the continuous flow of the water and then a voice was carried by the wind. It whispered, “Laura.” The voice didn’t scare me though in fact it made me quite curious. So I got up and walked further down the path. As I looked farther down I saw a tall hedge and from this point of view it gave the illusion that the path had ended. But as I neared I saw threads of light flowing out of the drapes of ivy, trying to conceal a new mystical place.
