(Y/N) is a big fan of Alchemy and studied a lot about it, she lost her parents in the Ishvalan civil war and was taken in by the Elrics. ( Edward, Alphonse, Trisha Elric and Van Hohenhiem). There was a family near them called the Rockbells, who were Winry and Granny Pinako but there used to be Winry's parents who were doctors and also died in the Ishvalan war.
Then one day Trisha Elric had unfortunately passed away and everyone was absolutely devastated, the boys especially, they wanted her back and to see her smile again. So they committed the ultimate sin, went against the taboo and performed human transmutation and paid the price for it.
Al lost his whole body and Ed lost his leg but when he bonded Al's soul to the suit of armor he lost his arm. (Or the other way round)
