"I used to like it. It got me inspired." Her eyes shone as if she were talking about true love. Kate sighed, two fingers on temple. She was struggling to keep her eyes open. They had kept her inside the office past her working hours, for "charity gestures", they called it. They picked people off the abominable streets and dumped them into the bright white sofas of Kates psychiatric ward.
She always disliked them, with their bleached out eyes and same obsessions with drugs, smokes, money, lust....nothing else. "Well then-Seevie?", she inquired. Seevie nodded. "Right. Seevie, there's more ways to be inspired. You own the world. You can do anything you want in the world. You just need to get up and....." Kate continued pouring out the standard motivational quotes from her mouth with dramaticised encouragement and hope. An it seemed like it was actually working. The poorly dressed girl had a growing smile on her dirt splattered face." It's always the tea", mused Kate silently. She bade the druggie goodbye with a smile that didn't quite disguise her relief.
Turning around, she dusted off her sofa and proceeded to pack up her stuff and leave her office. Her mind drifted while she walked down the long corridor. She thought about the troubles her next door neighbor was causing, her huge pile of undocumented psych eval papers, her overflowing inbox, her due rent, and... and the train to Colorado. Her heart skipped a beat.
She had completely forgotten about it. Cursing, she checked her watch. Dread creeped up her back. Her watch showed 10 past 11. The train was scheduled to leave at 11:15 pm. She would never make it in time. Exasperated, she threw her hands up in the air. She needed to catch the next train. She had to. Kate snapped up her phone and fevourly checked the website. Thankfully there was one that would leave at midnight. Sighing in relief, she quickly left the elevator and dashed home.
