The paradise was ours, all except that one apple. Alas, all we wanted was nothing but that one apple. Humans since the beginning have loved things that are out of their reach. The same was true for Hannah Parker’s obsession with Michael Jackson. Michael was unattainable but that never stopped Hannah and millions like her from loving him. If anything it just made them love him even more. Naturally when Michael Jackson’s New York concert tickets went up on sale, Hannah was one of the first to get hold of them. She got a ticket not just for herself but also for her friend Eve Adams.
Eve Adams was the New York girl next door. Not much else is needed to describe her. In the mornings one would find it difficult to spot her in the midst of a crowd of New Yorkers crossing the busy street with their starbucks and newspapers all dressed in elite suits and skirts, dressed to impress, ready to kill. Being an assistant to the editor – in – chief of Vogue New York looking her best everyday was a part of the job description. Every morning she put in a lot of effort to straighten her black curls, contour her high cheekbones, line her beautiful dark brown eyes, choose the right skin fitting outfit that exposed her long slender legs, and heels whose click – clock made heads turn around.
At nights though, when the hustle bustle calmed down and one had time to stop and really look at her, Eve Adams would not appear ordinary. After she showered away her daytime appearance she would go from looking good to being beautiful. Her black curls let lose, gently dropped from her forehead caressing the sides of her soft porcelain cheeks. Without the mask of the eyeliner and mascara one could see the gorgeous color of her chocolate brown pink rimmed eyes and in absence of the sharp contour her angelic smile with the curve of her lips meeting her cheekbones and ending in the crevice of the eyes shone through.
But as morning returned she went back to looking good and fitting in with the crowd.“Eve!” Hannah exclaimed with a beaming smile walking into her office
“Hey Hannah, looking unusually excited today what's the matter?” Eve asked looking up from her paperwork“Guess what”
“What”
“I got front row tickets to Michael Jackson concert!” Hannah exclaimed fishing out two tickets from her purse.
“That’s great Hannah! I’m so happy for you. Since the day I’ve met you all you've talked about is Michael and all you have wanted to do was meet him in person. By the way who are you going with?”
“You, who else” she jumps excitedly
“Oh, I can’t go I’m busy that day”
“Well whatever it is I’m sure you can reschedule it. Girl it’s a Michael Jackson concert and we have front row tickets. This is like a once in a lifetime opportunity, you have to come Eve” Hannah asserts emphatically
“I really can’t Hannah”
“Well what is it that you’re doing that day that’s more important than this?”
“Um… I have a doctor’s appointment”
Eve mumbles nervously“For what?”
“I have to get my eyes checked”
“you’ve got to be kidding me. So you’re telling me that you are going to miss a MICHAEL JACKSON concert to get your eyes checked!”
“Yes” Eve replies feebly
“Wait a minute, Eve when’s the eye appointment?”
“Huh?”
“When is the eye appointment?” Hannah asserts
“Um…” Eve stops mid sentence nervously biting her lower lip
“That’s right, I never told you the date of the concert. What’s going on Eve? Do you not like me? Is that why you don’t want to come to the concert with me?”
“No Hannah of course not, you’re one of my best friends, I would love to go to any concert in the world with you… just not Michael’s”
“why?” Hannah asks still shocked
Eve mumbles an inaudible reply“I didn’t get you Eve. Why do you not want to go to Michael Jackson’s concert?”
“BECAUSE I HATE MICHAEL JACKSON” Eve shouts banging her fist on the table.
