Run for it

"not a chance kid, we're gonna go somewhere private and have a nice long chat about what happened today got it?"

I gulped and looked to the door handle out the corner of my eye, we were in the middle of the city still so he wasn't going to fast and the door had one of those little nobs you could pull up to unlock it. I heard Rex whimper in my lap like he sensed what I was planning. I smiled at him gently and nudged him off my lap. I felt tears well up in my eyes as I kissed his head I hated leaving him again. I grit my teeth pulled the knob threw the door open and dove out tucking my head in my arms. 

"what the fuck!" I could hear Mayko scream as I hit the pavement and rolled. It hurt like hell but as soon as my feet finally leveled on the ground I started booking it. Not back home just anywhere, I could figure my way back once I made sure they weren't on my tail. I kept running and running turning up one street then down the other hoping over fences until I collapsed with exhaustion in an empty ally. I sat in the back corner tucked behind a dumpster trying to catch my breath. I only stayed there for about five minutes before I heard distant barking and yelling. 'shit they must have sent Rex on my tail' 

I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep running so I did the only thing I could think of and crawled quickly into the dumpster. it took everything in me not to gag at the stench and wiggled my way under some trash hoping that they wouldn't see me even if they opened it. I heard the footsteps get closer and I knew they had made it into the ally. I heard sniffing sounds from Rex as he searched for me and then a saddened whimper when he didn't find me. 

"where the hell did that little shit go" I heard the passenger of the car say. I heard a loud exhale and then someone banged on the side of the dumpster "he's in here, unfortunately," I heard Mayko sigh before opening the lid 'shit shit shit' my mind was racing 'what do I do' braced myself and as he opened the lid I jumped at him. This took him by surprise and it knocked him down. I sprang to my feet and started running again I didn't make it very far before I heard a fierce growl and then a sudden sharp pain in my ankle. I yelped and fell to the ground looking back and seeing Rex latched on to my leg looking terrifying. Tears welled in my eyes and spilled down my cheeks a mixture of pain fear and sadness pushing them forth. Rex Imedeatly let go and licked at the wound letting out a soft whimper of apology. He had acted out of impulse form his training he was loyal to his master and I was just an old friend he had pity on. 

"you little asshole your gonna pay for that" Mayko growled getting to his feet. Suddenly my phone rang, a tone I knew all too well. Mother had missed a payment and the debt collector was calling to come to get me, he would call and ask where I was, and I would tell him. Id tried lying to him but it just ends worse for me. If I don't answer he will be pissed but if I do answer these guys will kill me and even if I did I don't know where I am right now. my eyes were wide as a sob welled up in my throat. What had I ever done do deserve this shit. I closed my eyes and hung my head. "just kill me and get it over with" I said fighting of a sob. "just make sure someone tells my dad I'm dead so he won't send my crackhead slut of a mother any more money" I mumbled a sob finally getting threw. 

I could feel Rex nudging his head in my lap and letting out a soft whine. "Jesus kid how old even are you" "16" I mumbled "shit, why don't you go live with your dad and get away from all this gang and drug shit" "because dad is super important, he's really successful and happy and if the courts found out I was with him he could get in trouble since I'm supposed to be with mom. I was hoping I could make it the next year and a half till I'm 18 then I could be with him, he said the day I turn 18 he was going to send someone to come get me" 

Mayko let out a disheveled sigh and walked over to me kneeling beside me. "look, kid-" he was interrupted by the sound of my phone again ringing out. "answer it" I pulled the phone out of my pocket and hit accept. "he-hello" I stuttered out. "who the fuck do you think you are you little brat, how dare you ignore my calls, where the fuck are you your mothers payment is due and I have a fresh batch of new recruits just waiting for it." I shivered knowing what he means. "I- I'm sorry sir I don't know where I am I got lost".  "yea right you got lost, you just fucking wait for it when I find you I'm gonna make you wish you were dead, see ya soon" and with that, he hung up and the tears continued spilling down my face.  

"well, we can't take him home knowing that's what's waiting for him" the passenger sighed. "your right, alright kid you are gonna come with me and Grena where gonna get that leg looked at and get you some food you look like ya haven't eaten a decent meal in months, after that, we will figure out what to do about the situation with 'BOSS'. The big man has been ready to take them down for a while and I think your story might just set things the rest of the way in motion." Mayko mumbled out the last part before heaving me up and carrying me back to the car. at this point I was so physically and emotionally exhausted I just let it happen. he laid me down in the backset rex climbed in and laid with me and he and 'Grena' got in the front and started driving. "Hey kid what's your name" Mayko called out form the driver's seat  "Nuka Metro" I replied monotonously. there was a long pause "and whats your dad's name" there was a concern in the question but I dismissed it "Ranka metro"
