Chapter 3
-Betrayal-
Monday morning Collette woke up with a determined heart. She jumped out of bed and got dressed as quickly as she could. She had planned on going to the school's library to look for books on Greek mythology to try and learn more about Xander. She ran down the stairs and past the dining room.
"Whoa where are you off to in such a hurry?" Archer stuck his head out of the dining room.
Collette stopped in the doorway. "I'm going to school early to try to find some books in the library on Zeus."
"Oh, ok dear, please do not be late today."
"I won't." She shut the door behind her and headed for the gardening shed.
Once Collette got through the portal, she walked toward the school while smoothing her curls. There were no students yet and Collette loved how quiet the school was. She entered the library and instantly fell in love. To her left there was a desk covered in Knick knacks, files, and books. To her left was a line of computers, but the rest of the room was full of shelves, and each of those selves was filled with books. Collette had never seen so many books. She stood there just taking it all in, she didn't even notice a small quiet woman come out of the office behind the desk. "Can I help you?"
Collette jumped "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't see you"
"That's quite all right dear, I prefer to be unseen." She was short and petite. Blonde hair in a perfect bun on top of her head.
"Um I'm looking for a book on Greek mythology"
"We have a whole selection in our fantasy section." She pointed to a shelf toward the back. "Just look for the shelf labeled Greek mythology."
Collette looked to where the librarian was pointing "Thank you."
"No problem." She smiled, her cheeks pushing up her glasses. "If you need any assistance just let me know."
As Collette walked through the shelves of books, she felt excited. She ran her hands along the spines and read each title as she passed. When she came to the fantasy section, she looked for the Greek mythology books. She saw so many it was hard to pick which would be best to read. As she was picking up each book and reading their descriptions, Michael walked into the library. He noticed Collette and walked up behind her. Michael wrapped his arms around her, making her jump and drop the copy of Mythology in her hands. He kissed her cheek and said "Hey girl" once she realized who it was her heart slowed a little, but not much. "What are you doing here so early? You usually don't get here until last minute."
"Oh, I'm just um." She wasn't sure what to say. "Well I'm." as she struggled to find the words Michael picked up the book she dropped and read the title.
"Oh, are you writing about Greek mythology for English?"
"Oh yes! Yea for our essay due next week."
"That's cool, but why are you reading these when you can get everything you need from the internet?"
To be honest Collette despised the internet. She'd much rather study from a book. She found it confusing to have so much information. It made it hard to know what was true and what was just made up. "I like reading, books have it all in one package. The internet just makes it confusing for me."
"Here let me help you, I was just gonna look up some stuff for my essay." They walked to the computers and she sat down next to Michael. "So, what are we looking for?"
"Well I'm really just wanting to learn as much about Zeus as possible"
"Ok" he typed in Zeus Greek mythology. The first thing that popped up was a bunch of pictures. There were some of him surrounded with lightning and a couple of statues. They scrolled down and clicked on the Wikipedia link. As Collette read, she couldn't believe that this is how the humans saw Xander. She knew none of this could be true. He wasn't a god. He couldn't control lightning or shapeshift. He was just a Lylithean. 'Why did the humans make up these stories? Or did Xander lie to the humans? But why lie?'
