He was reaching the end of the hall and he could just feel the essence of her approaching. He gave one last little mental "you got this" to himself and held his breath when turning the corner.
He saw her walk towards him from a distance. The second he turned the corner his eyes found her with no effort. It was if she were a fiery crimson light, burning in the sea mass of gray drone beings.
But his eyes only kept a for a split second. He didn't want her to accidentally see him looking at her from so far away. That would mess up his entire plan. Yet he noticed his eyes had found the familiar scenery of the concrete ground once again. A place where he could hide and disassociate when he stomach gets too tight. "No." He said to himself.
"No!" He roared in his mind.
"This is not happening again, I'm not doing this again!"
"I've just got to say hi. What's the worst that could happen. Now look up."
He looked up to catch her grey eyes peering at his with a familiar energy that froze his heart and a expression that was indistinguishable. She looked at him. He checked this off in his mind. Now it was time to say hi.
"Hey," he blurted as she passed by.
It was a little to rushed for his liking but it sounded ok and he didn't want to think and exaggerate the sound of it in his head.
"Hi," she replied with coy smile.
His heart fluttered at the sound of her voice. As he was confident of her being at least 10 feet past, he let out the breath that he had been holding since he turned the corner in the hall. "Hi" he spoke quietly to himself, remembering the sound of her voice. He mumbled "hi" one more time, tasting the word in his mouth and savoring the memory and locking it in his long term for good.
When he has gotten to his next class and sat down, he thought about how his greeting had sounded not quite as he had hoped but but that he was proud of himself for doing so this time. Yet then, he thought how shaming it was that saying hi to a girl was something to be proud of. However this wasn't just any girl. In fact, this was the only girl that made him freeze in his tracks like this.
He wondered what she must of been thinking and feeling. Deep down he knew she had some interest. Why else would she look at him like that. This kept him motivated. But was she nervous like him? If she was, she sure kept it together better then he did.
"At some point, I will really talk to her," he pondered.
"I've got the rest of Jr. Year."
