Chapter 2
Reality check
Multiple pairs of glowing eyes were staring at me, what the hell had they put me in here with human eyes don't glow in the dark. I heard the sound of something shuffling around then the air shift around me as something moved, my anger from earlier was fast turning into fear. I flinched as I felt something sniffing at my neck and instantly pushed out blindly with my hands to push it back, my hand connected with something warm and flesh like as pushed it away and I heard the thump as it landed on the bed of the truck. I heard more shuffling as I moved about cautiously trying to find the side the truck, I gotta get out of here. My hand touched canvas and I followed it along until I found the edge of the flap and pushed it a side slightly to peak out. A scream went up followed by others over near the cue, I couldn't see what caused it but all the soldiers dashed over leaving only one guarding the truck I was in. A gunshot rang out followed by even more panicked screaming and I took my opportunity as the soldiers was watching the chaos unfold by the cue and slipped out of the side of the truck landing as quietly as possible. I checked I wasn't being watched before setting off around the front of the vehicle. As soon as I was out of sight I took off running.
I didn't get far down the deserted road when I heard a helicopter passing over, I quickly ducked into a shop doorway while I waited for it to pass. I need to get out of here, something is seriously wrong I thought as I looked around at the empty road. What was that in the truck with me and what where they checking me for ? My dad said not to go through the city but I need to get home, I'm going to have to go the long way around and I'm going to need a vehicle for that if not it will take forever.
I made my way to the nearest road that would take me out of the city whilst keeping my eyes peeled for a suitable vehicle. My progress was slow going as the sun bared down on me and my scalp, chin and hands were stinging and burning from earlier, my ribs also ached from being jumped on and held down. I lifted my shirt up slightly to inspect the damage to find a nice array of bruises already forming along the bottom of my rib cage explaining why it hurt if I took a deep breath, Jesus I must look a right mess.
I heard the sound of a vehicle coming and quickly ducked into an alley way hiding in the shadows as an army truck like the one I was in went past the top of the street I was on. I waited a short while making sure nothing else was coming before leaving the alley and heading away from the city and the way the truck went.
A while later some luck seemed to have found me as I spotted an old Toyota Hilux abandoned by the side of the road. I checked around before dashing over and easing the door open. Frantically I searched for a set of keys, I was running out of hope when I flipped the visor down and there they were. I grabbed them stuck them in the ignition and pulled the door to as I watched the fuel gage praying she would be full as I had left my purse behind in my car, hell I even left my Ipod behind. The tuck was almost full so I turned the key and slowly pulled away keeping my eyes peeled for any more army trucks.
As I drove I checked through the truck looking for anything else that may be useful but had no such luck so flicked the radio on hoping to get some answers to the million questions going round and round in my head.
"- everyone should go straight home and stay there. The Priminister is asking people not to panic, just lock your doors and stay inside. The army has already been deployed and taking control of the situation, under no circumstance should you approach or try to assist members of the public with the following symptoms, bloody discharges from their mouth, nose or eyes, uncoordinated, grunting, bite wounds or sores and erratic behaviour. I will repeat again that you are urged to go home and stay home until the army has dealt with the outbreak and has the infected people contained. In other news.." the woman continued to speak but I ignored anything else she had to say.
