'that's only if you want to die.'
she was on the verge of committing suicide. one long jump and she could have rid herself of every pain. rocks dangled from the building. she could hear voices from behind her, men shouting for her to get off.
she was trapped.
shilpa was a loner three years ago. blonde coffee roasts, extra salty fries, and rupi kaur poems on the restaurant table. they both loved coffee and fries. that's what made her love him even more. the smile on his face lit up the cafe like a thousand stars.
she was alone, afraid, and most of all, terrorized by the thought of loving him. she couldn't go on without him, but she couldn't go on loving him anymore. he was like another one of her drugs. another one of her addictions.
she was a loner.
' did you really mean it when you said those things?'
'every word of it.'
adulthood took them both somewhere else, and she lost the love her life. she was completely and utterly in love with him and then some how, turning 23 had changed him.
he wanted the world. he wanted to fly, and she, she was stuck in a small town, yearning for the comforts of home that she missed as a child. following him to new york felt like a distant memory.
the red rose cafe was her favorite spot in new york, the cups were always a crisp china, the coffee always bubbling hot as she walked through the door on a cold october morning. it was the spot where she'd sit, staring through the dirty window, watching raindrops cry against the glass. that's where the best poetry came to her mind.
and then he walked in, exactly the way he had walked out of her life five years ago.
