The day was long and uneventful and Tia couldn't stop talking about Nick. To be honest, I was losing it.

"I mean, look at him," she said as she stared at him from across the cafeteria.

See our highschool, is like any typical highschool with a social hierarchy. You get the popular, who mainly consists of the jocks and cheerleaders, who are all the way at the top. And then you get the nerds, who consist of the computer wizzes and triathlon club members etc, at the bottom. Tia and I, we're in the middle, sorta. I mean, we don't get noticed by the jocks, yet at the same time, we're not at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Nick, well, I'm sure you could tell, is a popular, and right now he's sitting with his friends, laughing at something and Tia, finds this  appealing . Wow.

" Tia, could you stop fangirling over Nick! " I say, because honestly, I've had enough.

"Miles!" She says, giving me an exasperated look.

"Oh would you look at that, the bell just rang, well guess I'll be off to accounting! See you later Tia!" I say, grateful for the brief reprieve provided for me by the bell.

As I walk away I cannot help but ponder over the stupidity of falling in love. I mean, what's the point? Why are people such masochists? More importantly , though, why are adults blindly believing in fairy tales?
There is no such thing as love. Love and fairies probably coexist in a far far away land of Neverland! We, however, are on earth, and on earth, love and fairies don't exist! So why is nobody else getting the memo. Why is nobody else realising this? Why does it seem like I'm the only sane person in this entire school!

I mean, the entire notion of love is ridiculous right? I mean, don't get me wrong, I believe in familial love and love among friends but not the kinda Cinderella and prince charming kinda love. You see that, that my friend, is folklore.

I'm so consumed in my thoughts that I bump into someone. I look up and find the most attractive man I have ever seen.

"Sorry," he says, and his voice is like ice cream, soft and sweet.

"Yeah, watch where you're going," I say and try move around him.

"Excuse me," Mr Ice cream says.

"Uh, you're excused," I say as I cross my arms on my chest knowing that he probably has more to say.

" Look, you're the one who wasn't paying attention to where you were going. So an apology would be nice ya'know." He says making weird hand gestures.

"Yeah, my guy, look. I'm kinda in a rush to my accounting class, and as amusing and mind stimulating a conversation with you is, I'd rather tackle a balance sheet or an income statement, so if you'll excuse me." I say and leave him standing there mouth open.

See, I know that guy. He's the talk of the school, apparently he can be polite yet at the same time he can be incredibly rude. His name is Todd Montgomery and most girls fall at his feet, praying for his attention, the guys just hope for some recognition from him. Me, I want him off my radar.
