Broken but Mended

Prompt used: They had a messy break up in high school and now he's her new boss/she's his new boss.

My family consists of my parents, myself and my older brother Thomas. Mymom was pregnant with what would be my little brother, when Jackson and his family moved next door. The Xaviers moved from some small town in Alaska due to James getting a better job at the hospital here in Portland.

The Xaviers were just like my family but they had money. They bought the beautiful house next to ours with the big gorgeous yard. Unlike them we lived in a big house due to it being handed down in the family. We were not rich like them, but my parents gave us a great life.

James and Olivia had two children. Sophia who was a year older than my brother and Jackson who was my age. I don't know how it happened but our families formed a close bond with each other. We stayed the night with them with Adam was born and the Xavier's were there when Adam passed years later from a long fight with Leukemia.

During those times of deep sadness after losing my little brother the double J's was formed. Somehow Jackson and Josie became one. We were the best of friends and often got into trouble, even pleading the 5th so our mothers disciplined us both.

The years passed and soon we were in high school. Everyone thought we were a couple with the way we were with each other. We fought our feelings for each other for a long time but it was during a study session one night where he finally kissed me. I slapped him, then kissed him back. We were boyfriend and girlfriend that night forward.

Things didn't change much, though new rules were added, like doors open at all times and hands above the table. Thomas even threatened him that he would make Jackson's life hell if he hurt his little sister. Though that didn't matter much as Thomas graduated and was in college soon after.

We were seniors with our lives ahead of us but little did I know my life would change and my heart would be broken.

We were not the cliche couple to lose our virginity on prom night, that had happened months before while camping. We were prom king and queen though with all the pomp and circumstance that went with it.

Our parents threw us a combined graduation party and it was after that I had learned Jackson was off to some summer internship. He'd never mentioned it to me which shocked me but we both were going off to different schools. Him to Harvard and me to the University of Washington. His parents could afford to pay for whatever school he wanted to attend. I on the other hand received a full scholarship, thank goodness.

Communication between us was every day and spending all of our free time with each other and our families was wonderful. Something changed and it was our first summer home when my heart was shattered.

He didn't want me to meet him at the airport and our normal family dinner turned into just a dinner with the parents. It was a few days later when he came over to tell me he had met someone and he was sorry for not telling me sooner. He had brought her home to meet his family.

As soon as I heard those words I decked him in the nose and kneed him in his junk. I left him bleeding on our front porch and never looked back. I later found out Jackson's parents were not happy with him and how he'd handled things with me. The one thing that didn't change is our families still stayed close and I still had my second set of parents. Jackson through the years came home but everyone made sure we were not in the same vicinity as each other. I am not sure what happened with the girl as she was never mentioned.
