Thirteen Days
My eyes flutter open and Scott is still laying with me, arms and legs wrapped around my body like you'd need a crowbar to get him off. The grip is loose enough for me to turn around so my nose is only an inch from his. I stare at his eyelashes, splayed across his cheeks. I brush away stray hair from his forehead.
His hair is so soft and I can't help but run my fingers through it. He smiles a sleepy smile and it makes me smile. My insides are fluttering, he's just so perfect
"No, I'm not," Scott mumbles. "But you are."
"What?" seriously, what is he talking about?
"Perfect." He answers. I press my mouth to his cheek.
"If you're not perfect, then I am certainly not. You are super smart. You're funny. You've got more self-control than I ever will. And, you're beautiful." I breathe against his skin, kissing after each point.
"Come here, perfect." He connects our lips. God, am I going to miss this when he's cured. I shift myself so Scott's on his back and I'm half on top of him. This is one of those moments that I wish could last forever, but sadly, we had school. And Mrs. Hoying was not having us forget that.
"Boys! If you aren't up here in the next five minutes you'll be late! Oh, and make yourselves presentable. Kirstin and Esther are coming over today," she yelled down the stairs to us. Scott and I just looked at each other. Kirstin and Esther. Damnit.
We rush around, grabbing our favorite shirts and best jeans. Scott spikes up his hair and I flatten mine down and we run up the stairs.
"You boys look nice. Okay, now go or you'll be late for school," Mrs. Hoying says upon seeing us.
The day goes by quickly in that way that days do when you really don't want them to end. I show up to my first hour class and the next thing I know I'm at lunch with Scott out behind the school. We have a little pocket in the school wall we always hide in. I will admit, it's getting to small for us, we aren't freshmen anymore, but it's our spot. It's been our spot since the day I finally talked to Scott. Avi and Kevin never goy why we liked this place. It was small and separate from everyone else. Kevin is a people person, usually. Avi is too, but not to the same manic, golden retriever puppy extent.
At lunch, Scott and I can curl up against each other and blame it on lack of space if we get questioned. We could talk and laugh and not being lying to the world. That's the great thing about our little pocket, we can get away from people. And, this is one of the only spots on the entire school grounds where there isn't a camera or recording device.
"So, how do you think Esther will have changed?" Scott asks me. Esther had been Cured about a week ago. Her happy bubbliness is most likely gone.
"She'll be all cool and collected. Short and sweet and to the point when she talks. She's not going to laugh that much anymore. That's what I think at least. But I hope she'll be like your dad; Cured and still fun."
