Abby's POV"How dare you!"
"She's done for"
"Ethan, are you okay?"
Cold pricked my bare skin as I shivered, he was chuckling. The nerve of this man, if only I could kick him in his glory right now.
His 'assistant' rushed between us, blocking my view with his tall build. "I would scramble if I were you, he gets violent from this point on" He whispered, turning his back on me. I stepped to the side and glared at them.
I had a mouthful of curses to throw at his face. "You little piece of -"
Suddenly, two men hauled me away. They spoke through mics attached to their ear, alerting the authorities. "We have a situation upfront, please proceed as planned" I panicked. I struggled and sternly told them to release me, but they wouldn't even look my way.
I looked back and saw the two men whispering to each other, both dead serious as they watched me get dragged away.
The man to my left, who held me tightly was finished conversing with his mic. "Look ma'am, we have to distance you away from the scene. Please stop struggling and cooperate."
We arrived at the second entry, they still held firm to my arms as we stopped. "I'll take it from here, gentlemen" I turned to see the assistant walking towards us, the men release their grip and swiftly took their leave.
"I believe we haven't had a proper introduction" He was smug as his eyes observed me, a hand held out for me to take. "I'm Ian Kristoff, a pleasure to meet you but at dire circumstances" I folded my arms and ignored his hand. "Your boss, he's from the Sanchez family, correct?"
For a moment, his eyes shifted to concern. "That is confidential information, how do you-"
"Abby! What in the hell?"
Charles looked confused and mad, his strides were swift as he approached. I forgot that he was with me before it all happened, he arrived just in time to see me humiliate myself in front of a crowd.
I got dragged away before he could retaliate.
Ian took a few steps back as Charles towered over him, a snarl on his lips. "I've only got one thing to say, stay the hell away from us. Tell that to your pathetic boss"
Ian frowned as he watched me get dragged by Charles, leaving him alone. We silently made our way to the parking lot, my gaze occasionally meeting his cold glances. "Aren't we supposed to wait for your sister?"
He grumbled and started the car. "I got her a cab, she's on her way home now"
I fumbled with my bag as we entered the highway, we were silent. I wasn't going to start this conversation with him, not while he's driving.
We managed to busy our thoughts throughout the ride, he stopped the car in front of my house. He breathed and rested his head on the wheel. "Why would you do that?"
"What do you think?" I shrugged, opening the door and stepping out. I paced to my front door, fumbling for my keys as I heard a thud and quick footsteps behind me. "Thanks for the lift, you can go away now" I felt weak and distraught, I needed a rest.
He came into view, his figure blocking my path. "Stop ignoring the question, Abby" I scoffed and passed him but he insisted and caught my arm. "Are you even considering what I feel?" I tore his hand from mine, rage bottling my insides. "It's been so long, did you know anything about this?"
He rubbed his neck, eyes cast down to the ground. "No, I didn't Abby so please stop-"
"Cut the crap! I know you Charles, and that look is lying" My knuckles turned white and my palms broke skin and bled as my nails dug deeper, tightened every second of nausea. I felt sick, this cruel endless joke of suffering was choking me again.
I was cold, inside and out. I didn't know what else to think, it's too much please make it stop. I gagged a breath as my chest tightened. "Abby, stop you're having another one of your... fits" He stroked my back slowly, attempting to ease me.
I shrugged him off and backed away, stumbling on my own two feet as my limbs weakened. "I need some time alone, please don't follow me"
I turned to leave, my pace swift and quick. I was jogging, then I was running. I was running like a madman, until the trees blurred and my legs felt sore and my eyes were burning.
I was trapped, in another room of torture. The walls closing in before darkness devoured me whole. I felt it's claws pierce my head as I screamed, ripping open the memories I once buried, the feelings that still lingered.
It was coming back, that same pain I've felt from the past two years. It couldn't be contained, not when he was back.
He broke me.
A flash of light, then pain pounded my back and scraped my limbs. I heard grumbling, but it was not my own.
"What a pleasant surprise"
I froze, my body turned numb as my eyes locked with his. Those same eyes that were once alive, looked back at me with bleakness.
"It's been quite a while, Abby. Have you forgotten me?"
"How could I forget the bastard who abandoned me?"
"How could I forget the lady who slapped me publicly?"
I snarled at him. "Your excuse seems petty to me, Ethan" I scowled and spat with rage. "Changing your name will never undo what you did to me"
He chuckled, sending shivers down my spine. "Actually, that also applies to your actions"
Anger made my face red with warmth as he caught my hand mid air. He leaned closer, a smirk on his lips. "Not for the second time, violence doesn't solve anything"
His demeanor turned serious, he wasn't the Dave I once knew. He didn't have that haunting gaze he was giving me right now, something was wrong.
He didn't break me, we broke each other.
