The sun shines into my eyes as I blink rapidly to clear my vision.I pull my blanket off me,slowly and lazily standing up.I still don't feel fully awake as I make my way to the bathroom.
As I stare at my reflection in the slightly dirty mirror something hits me, today, this very day, is when an exchange student from America is coming to stay in my house.I wasn't going to do this...until my parents signed me up thinking I would 'learn'from this experience.

"hey Y/n come here I need to talk to you!" i hear my mom call.  "coming!" i reply.

What is she going to say now, I'm 17 and responsible enough to take care of myself.

I walk slowly down the stairs and dump myself on a chair in front of her.

"You know we have an exchange student coming don't you?"

"Yeah?"

"I may have signed you up for a bonus program-"

"What, what does that mean?" I say in a rush.

"Well the student will be staying for an extra 6 months..." She trailed off.

"What! I don't even want to do it 6 months, never mind a year!" I whine.

"I'm sorry, I have a lot of business trips and I just can't be home enough to look after you."

"I'm 17! I can take care of myself." I argue back.

"What about the laundry? Cooking? Cleaning? I know you won't be able to do it all."
"I-" She was right, I can't do this.

"Enough is enough. Get changed, eat your breakfast and go to school.

I scoff at her and go upstairs, putting on my outfit I had ready for today.

I grab my bag and make my way down stairs waking past the pancakes mum made for me

"I don't need your stupid breakfast." I am still mad at her, i don't want to share my house with some scruffy teenage American boy.

I storm out of the house heading to school.

Of course when I get to school the head master calls my name, so I make my way to his office.
Could this day get any worse!

The door creeks open as I twist the handle slowly.

"Ah my favourite student!" my headmaster exclaims. I roll my eyes. "Come and meet our exchange student."

I turn my face to meet his greenish blue eyes. I  thought our eyes locked into each other's for a split second, until the head master started talking. I wasn't listening to what he was saying though, all I focused on was his mesmerising golden hair and his soft smile, he was to good to be true.
"Y/n? Are you listening?Did you hear that?"
"Uh..yeah yeah." I mumble back not breaking eye contact with the mystery boy. My cheeks became a shade of red as I gripped my books in my hand.

"Corbyn, you can follow Y/n about today. Just know that you're in good hands." So, his name is Corbyn.

The head master gave him a cheesy grin as he gestured towards me and we leave the room.

"Hey, I'm Corbyn, Corbyn Besson."
I catch myself looking down. "I'm Y/n." We walk down the hallway to my first class avoiding eye contact.

As soon as I saw her I felt my heart jolt. I don't know what this beautiful girl with the most unique green eyes was doing to me. We continue down the hall

Is she going to say anything?
I realised I was going to have to make an effort.
"I...uh...like your necklace." Nice one Corbyn. I mentally curse myself.

"Uh thanks... this necklace is special to me..." she replies in a quiet voice.
"Why?" I ask getting curious.

As soon as he asked me that my eyes started to fill with tears, but I blinked them away.

"Before my mum and dad got a divorce, they each gave me a charm to put inside it. Signifying they will always be with me no matter what an-"

My voice started to quiver. Memories of my parents arguing flashed through my head i would sit on the stairs at night and listen to them scream at each other, sometimes it got physical and my dad would his my mom, I would sit there and cry until I felt too tired to cry anymore. His face softened.
"Hey, you alright?" He puts a hand on my shoulder but I shake it off.
"Yeah, Yeah." I reply wanting to change the subject.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked."

"No, it's not your fault. Lets just keep going." I say as I wipe a tear that had escaped.

Corbyn's face filled with worry but didn't say anything, hoping he won't make things worse. We walked quietly to class.

Corbyn sat next to me in every class. I never really had friends in high school and I'm graduating in a year.
It's lunch and I'm sitting by myself Corbyn said he needed the bathroom, so he'll be back for next class.

Oh great, here "they" come.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?"
"You have any money in that bag slut?"
They both laugh and grab my bag, I didn't bother trying to get it back. This happens every day, so I'm used to it.

They tipped my bag upside down throwing my books on the floor.
"Well, I guess there's no money"
"Look her money's in her pocket, that wee bitch is trying to hide it from us!"

They both grab me but before they could take my money, Corbyn runs up to them and pushes them away.
"Corbyn..." I whisper trying to pull him back but he ignores me.

"Keep your hands off her!"

??:found yourself a boyfriend then have you." he chuckles. "slut" he spits as his friend laughs with him.
I felt my cheeks turn a shade of red. Did he just think Corbyn was my boyfriend?

"Maybe he has money."

They try to grab him but Corbyn punches them both in the nose, so they both start to bleed and scramble away. "Just you wait blondie, we'll get you!"

Corbyn turns round and I immediately hug him as I start to cry. He wraps his arms round my waist.
"You okay?"
"Thank you." I whisper my voice wavering. No one had ever stood up for me before, the other kids have seen what they do to me, but choose to ignore it.

The hug felt like it lasted and eternity but he gently pulls away and we both sit down.
After a while of talking he asks a question that looked like he had wanted to asked all day.
"What's the third charm for on your necklace?"

"That's from my internet friend. Who's helped me through so much, since we can't see each other in person he sent me this charm." I look down smiling.

Corbyn's face hardens then softeneds almost immediately.

"That's sweet." He says through grinded teeth.
"Yeah to bad he lives on the other side of the world." I say jokingly but feel my face drop after saying it.

After school we both climb into the back of my mums car. Our hands touch but loose contact as we put on our seatbelts.
Nobody spoke the whole way home.
"Mom where is Corbyn going to sleep?" I ask after a while.
"In your room for now." She says slowly. My eyes widen.
Corbyn and I both agreed to sleep as far away from each other as possible. Once we both got into bed mom called me outside to speak to me.

"Now I'm trusting you both in one bed no funny business ok?"
I simply nod, and go back to my bedroom.
"Hey, I'm gonna Skype my friend now, I can introduce you if you want?"
"Yeah sure." He reply's dryly.

As soon as his face appeared on my computer screen Corbyn's jaw drops.
