Upon arriving at the furniture store that was about two blocks away, Mark and Lucas grabbed the futon that Lucas would be sleeping on, as well as some pillows, mugs, cups, plates, curtains, silverware and towels. As they began to move their full cart to the checkout stand, Mark saw a bunch of desks that caught his eye.
"Can we get a desk? Mark asked Lucas as Lucas nodded his head.
"Hell yeah. We're not paying for any of this." He chuckled as Mark quickly grabbed one of the desk building sets.
The roommates waited in line and then payed for everything. They exited the store and Lucas continued walking down the street with the cart. "Bro, I don't think we can just take those."
Lucas turned around, "Why haven't you noticed that I just don't care."
Mark shrugged his shoulders and followed behind his new roommate. The two kept walking silently before Lucas pointed to a storefront that could make copies of keys. Mark quickly ran inside and paid the small fee for the copy to be made. They were told that they had a few extra keys to make so they'd have to wait about 20 mins.
The boys left their cart in the key store and quickly ran across the street to get Lucas an ice cream cone. They then returned to the store as Lucas was content with his selection of ice cream. The man at the key store was shocked when Lucas walked in with the dessert.
"Excuse me sir, but you're not allowed to have food in here." The man explained as Lucas looked at his ice cream cone.
"There, it's gone." Lucas smirked as he shoved the entire thing into his mouth.
Mark rolled his eyes and apologized to the key store man. They then received their key and left with the cart. They walked and pushed the cart while analyzing the new area they lived in. After only a few minutes they were back at their apartment. Lucas told Mark to leave the cart outside, then he ran inside with the receipt and key and handed them to their landlord.
"Excuse me sir, after much thinking, we've decided to give back the key and have you compensate us for the purchases that we had to go through with because of the lack of space, due to your mistake. We'll accept a check or cash." Lucas explained as the landlord quickly went to the back of his office and came back with cash.
"Please, no more harassment." The old man pleaded.
"Of course. Have a lovely day." Lucas smiled as they left.
Mark and Lucas dapped each other up and then continued to go towards their elevator to load the shopping cart in. As the door was about to close, Mark saw a girl across the street struggling to lift a few of her moving boxes. He quickly ran out of the elevator and attempted to help the girl.
"Where are you going?" Lucas screamed at Mark.
"I'll be up in a second!" Mark called back to him.
Before approaching the girl, Mark quickly ruffled his hair and straightened the jean jacket he was wearing, "Here, I've got it."
He grabbed the heavy box from the girl and gave her a smile, "Thank you." She smiled before grabbing two pillows and a few bags and shutting the trunk of the moving van she rented.
"Do you think you could help me take the boxes upstairs?" His neighbor asked him as he nodded his head.
They got in her apartment's elevator and went to the third floor. She then directed him to her unit where she opened the door and Mark was able to put the boxes down.
"Thank you so much for the help." The girl smiled while pulling out her hand for him to shake it, "I'm Ava."
"You speak English?" He asked as he quickly switched into the language he spoke back home in Canada.
"Yeah?"
"Woah."
"Where are you from?" She asked, still not knowing his name.
"Toronto. What about you?" He asked her innocently.
"Los Angeles." She responded.
"Aye! That's what's up!" He smiled as he finally realized he hadn't introduced himself, "I'm Mark."
"Mark from Toronto." Ava laughed.
"And Ava from Los Angeles." Mark joked as he quickly saw outside her living room window and saw it faced his living room's.
"I should be getting back to my roommate now." Mark explained as he smiled and tried to walk out.
"Wait! Give me your number or something?" Ava questioned as they both took out their phones and exchanged contact information.
Once they handed back each other's phones, Mark read her contact name out loud, "Ava - Neighbor. That's super direct. I like it. That's what's up."
"Mark." She read his contact name and started laughing, "Okay Mark."
"Okay Ava - Neighbor, I'll see you around."
"Thank you again for the help!" She smiled before he waved to her and left to go back to his apartment.
Upon arriving back to his unit, he saw Lucas had already arranged the couch that he'd be sleeping on. It was a gray color and served as a sitting area as well as a sleeping space for Lucas. It was comfy and luckily, large enough to accommodate Lucas comfortably.
"Where do you want your desk?" Lucas asked Mark as Mark looked around and then looked at the other side of their apartment, "In front of the living room window."
"Okay. I'll build it if you order us chicken." Lucas suggested before Mark agreed.
"Hell yea- wait. So our old couch is just gonna sit in the middle of the living room?" Mark asked as he now realized their old couch was just sitting in the middle of the room.
"Nope, I have an idea for that." Lucas explained as Mark began to realize that as dumb as his friend was, he was actually a genius.
