Just a few hours ago, I never would have thought I'd be fighting aliens and trying to save the world from an invasion. I never thought I'd be in a basement building a potato gun with Tom and his little sister, Hannah.

We had to be quick. Just looking at the thing Tom was building, it gave me doubts. What good was it really going to do against the aliens with their high-tech weapons? It's better than nothing, I keep trying to tell myself. But as each minute ticks by, I'm becoming more and more anxious.

Hannah and I watched as Tom taped together the last bits of his creation. I looked towards his sister and also saw a look of doubt. "How are you doing, Hannah?" I smiled weakly.

"A little scared," she admitted, looking down .

I grasped her tiny hand. "Well that's alright. I mean, I'm scared too. It's alright to be scared."

Hannah just nodded. Tom stood up with the potato gun in hand. "You two ready?"

----

We hurried up the basement steps and to the stairs leading up to the room with the attic entrance. We stopped before entering when we heard one of the twins yell.

"What are we going to do now?"

"I don't know!"

Tom and I locked eyes. Hannah grasped my hand. "Stay behind me," Tom instructed, grasping his makeshift gun tighter. I nodded and pulled Hannah closer to my side.

I watched as he took a deep breath and pushed the door open. He started to float. I couldn't tell if it was just my mind playing with me. And the next thing I knew I was off the ground myself. It was weird sensation. It was almost like swimming.

"No! Tom! Don't!" Jake and twins yelled at us, but it was too late. We were already bumping our heads on the ceiling. Hannah's hand had slipped from my grasp. I looked around and saw she had drifted over near a bean bag on the roof. Wow. Never thought I'd say that sentence in my life. I was next to Tom and Jake, whom I grabbed onto because I didn't know what else to do.

"Hello, humans," one of the aliens said from the slightly open attic stairs.

"Enjoying the ride?" the other one teased, before they both jumped down as they clicked something on their shoes, letting them walk on the ground.

"They have gravity boots!" green shirt twin commented. "Why don't we have gravity boots?"

"The door!" Jake pointed. "Stop them! Use your weapon, Tom!"

Tom and I met eyes and I nodded. I let go of him and put a hand on the roof, also parting from Jake. I really didn't know what we were going to do. I tried to look around to find anything useful, but what would really help if we were suspended in the air with really no control of where we were going. "Today!"
