2 months later
"Now remember, I'll be back for you at 4 ok. Be on time. And do you have your umbrella? It looks as if its going to rain. Make sure you're always respectful to your teachers, get all As-"
"Ok Ok dad I got it. I'm not 5 you know. This isn't elementary school." I chuckled and he gave me a pitiful smile.
"I'm sorry. I guess I'm trying to make up for lost time and lost advice."
"And you will ok. In due time. We're together now and nothing and no one can ruin that. Never again."
"I love you sweetheart," he kissed my forehead, "have a great day."
"You too. I love you." I climbed out of Pete's car, waved to him goodbye and headed up the stairs of my school.
All's been well since the last two months. Pete was granted bail, a huge sum, but he got it. My mom was placed into a mental institution after all went down; she didn't take everything, including Lloyd's death, that well. Blaine was out of Europe by the ending of that week. He didn't leave a note, a notice to the school or anyone else. He didn't try contact me either and I figure it was more or likely that since now more persons knew his secret, he couldn't risk staying here so he left. Jaime noticed me pretty much ignoring her and decided to just stop talking to me, Amanda siding with her. Some friends indeed. Lloyd's body, including Jake's and seven others, was found in the far off woods of our county, next to the house-with-no-windows. The killer was never found. :)
As I went through the school, to and from classes, I felt so much at ease. It was as if everything was finally perfect. All was in place. All but one.
They never found his body and I never heard from him since that night. No trace of Fred Stevens, the biggest nerd ever either. It was as if he vanished into thin air. Fell off the face of the earth. It hurt me real bad. I was in a state of depression for a week. But I quickly found and maintained control after, I know he'd want me to...
The bell signaling the end of the school day rang and with a smile I headed to my locker. A short preppy brunette was in the locker next to mine. I wondered how I've never noticed her before. She looked over at me and smiled.
"Hi, my name is Charley," she extended her hand out to me
"Kay-lee," I shook it, "are you new here, I've never seen you before."
"Yeah I am. I just transferred here from Canada. Today's my first day."
"Oh that's good. You like it so far?"
"Yeah its great"
"Cool," I smirked and turned back to stacking my books on the shelf.
"Hey Kay-lee?"
"Yeah?" I turned back to her.
"I don't know anyone here and I could really use some help. Plus I don't want to spend my senior year alone. Will you be my friend?" she was beaming, I smiled back; heartfelt.
"I'd love to."
When Pete came to pick me up a few minutes later I was shaking with joy. New home, new friend, new dad. It was like a whole new life. A whole new way to start my senior year. We pulled up in the driveway.
"Uhhh, the lawn needs some serious mowing. I'll be in a bit ok."
"Sure. I'll make us some sandwiches."
"Cool."
I headed in, went into the kitchen and put some cheese in the microwave to melt then I headed up to my room to put away my stuff. I opened the door and stood dead in my tracks, my bag falling from my hand. The familiar black pants and white shirt. Classic and sexy. The white mask covered his face, but not his hazel eyes or his lips, that held that heart-stopping smile I loved so much. So much I wanted to ask, so much I wanted to say and do. But I could only think of one to do. I ran into his arms.
"Kay-lee."
"Abductor."
He smiled down at me.
I smiled back.
