A normal kid. That's all I am. An average Joe. A face in the hall. A nobody. So, how could a nobody like me, do something so amazing? Then again, I'm not amazing, I'm a blank slate.
I stare into the deafening hallway quietly walking down. The sounds of people talking, friends laughing, and the slamming of lockers are loud, but peaceful. I see my friends and wave running towards them. Then something stops the peace, the laughter, the talking, and even the locker slamming. I look to the right and see a boy on the ground and a girl and another boy laughing and pointing. Everyone stares, some even join in the laughing and teasing. I hope someone does something, and quick. Someone does, a girl everyone knows, the most popular girl in school. She stands in between the two and the boy glaring at them, her fists clench.
"Talk to him and push him like that one more time and you'll have to go through me," she threatens, looking them straight in the eyes with defiance. The two back off and walk down the hallway slowly. The noise starts again, the peace, the laughing, the talking, and slamming lockers. Everyone goes back to their usual business, except me. I stare at that boy, and wonder how he felt when someone stood up for him. Did he feel ashamed that a girl took those two on? Or happy that she let a little kindness go his way. Then my gaze turns to the girl. Why did she do that? Why did she go out of her way to help him? Then I realize something. I want to be that girl. I want to stand up. That is who I am, who I want to be. I want to be like her.
"Eva!" Calls one of my friends, I go back to reality and race towards them thinking 'I want to stand up'.
