I woke with a start. It was just a nightmare, nothing more than that, I wasn’t back in the Nevernever, everything was okay. Looking around my room I saw that everything was in place, no one had broken in. Finally my eyes settled on my alarm clock 3:36am, I’d only been asleep for two hours. Rolling over I tried to fall asleep, but I knew my attempts were useless, just as they had been every night since I’d come back from the Nevernever. Pale light floated through the window, the air was cold and crisp, think nice thoughts I thought to myself, but there was no point trying to kid myself into thinking I was going to fall back asleep again. Getting up I walked into the bathroom, looking into the mirror I saw the scar above my left eyebrow, going from my eyebrow up into my hairline. My brown hair was sticking out in all directions, but most of all there was my piercing green eyes. They were a sign of someone who could see the fey. I was still Isaiah Chase, but I was nothing like the man I was a year ago.

“Isaiah Michael Chase, you can not spend the rest of your life moping around, we’ve been back for a month now and we have not seen a single faerie. I love you but you are turning into the most boring person alive! So lets go out, we could go to the park or go see a movie, something normal like that.”  Mackenzie Scott came running up the stairs yelling like a crazy person. This was one of the many things I loved about her. Kenzie could walk into a room full of pessimists and with in ten minutes she could have them laughing and smiling. She was the type of girl who didn’t need to be perfect, she scoffed at girls who walked around in mini skirts and stilettos. She was down to earth, brave, she could take on the world if she wanted, she was beautiful and she knew it but she didn’t care, all she wanted to do was live. Kenzie burst through my bedroom door, her light brown hair flying wildly around her face, her tiny figure bouncing like a five year old. “ Please” she added as though it was an after thought. Her eyes looking up at me, begging me to come with her. Argh she knew I would do anything for her and she was using it to her advantage “Okay” I said finally giving in “Lets go to the park.” Although it was a bad idea and the fey might be there I decided to take my chances, I could not sped the rest of my life living in fear.
