"Oh my god. Have any of you met Kyle?" Jessica exclaims.
"Kyle as in Kyle Yates?" Autumn asks.
"YES! HE'S LIKE, SO SO CUTE." Jessica continues.
"Woah there girl, don't get your hopes up. I heard that he's already dating Samantha Gray" Sophie takes a bite out of her peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Kyle Yates. My jaw locks into place and my hands turn into fists. That son of a bi-
"Hey Abi, you okay? You've been awfully quiet."
"Huh? Oh, no I'm fine." She mutters.
Come to think of it, even though I've just met Abigail 2 days ago, she's been acting weird today. Usually, she's blabbing all the way from homeroom to dismissal but today, she's not been talking at all. My phone vibrates in my pocket. During school hours? I already told my parents not to text me. So who could that be?
Unknown Number
Meet me on the roof after school.
-Samantha.
I look over to Samantha's table but she was already gone. Well, the only way to find out is to see right? The rest of the day went by pretty fast. Maths was fun, US history was surprisingly easy due to me spending a lot of time learning about it online, and music was a bore. I kept staring at the clock throughout the day, finally, 2:44 PM. I synced the tapping of my fingers with the clock's loud ticking. Then, the bell's screech signalled the start of the hallways river, a constant flow of teens flowing downstream out of the exits. I grabbed my bag and started to walk towards the exit of the classroom.
"Nozomi? You free now? Can we talk?" Abigail's voice was soft and sore but clear to understand due to us being the only two in class.
I wanted to turn around and tell her that I have something important to take care of, but when I did, she broke down. Tears flowed down her cheeks like water leaking out of broken pipes. I open my arms and she throws herself into them, bawling her eyes out.
"Where'd you wanna go?"
°
'Sorry, something cropped up. Can we call a reschedule? I'm really sorry.'
'It's fine. I'll tell you when.'
-
I heave a sigh of relief, even though Samantha wants to talk right now, someone clearly needs more help.
"Can I get a Caramel Latté and a White Mocha Cappuccino please?"
I placed Abigail's Caramel Latté in front of her. She rested her head on her crossed arms, looking down onto the dull, beige table.
"Abigail? You wanna talk?"
She takes a huge sniff.
"Josh cheated." She sobs, trying so hard to hold back her tears she looks like she's going to choke on them. "We haven't been doing so good. Always arguing about the smallest things and him always getting so angry for no reason. Then one day I went to his place and found the front door unlocked, pieces of clothing leading up the staircase into his room, I couldn't bring myself to open the door. He came out anyways, threatened me to stay or else he'll upload pictures of me onto the Internet. I don't know what to do. I want to leave but there's still this part of me that loves him."
I felt bad for her, I've never been in a relationship before because I hid from everyone back in Kyoto for a good reason.
"In my opinion, I don't think staying is the best option. He's just going to hurt you more. I know you love him, but I want the best for you."
"But if anyone finds out about the pictures, it's over for me." She sniffles.
"Okay, let's pay him a visit."

We were outside the garage of Josh's house. I reach for the doorbell but the smooth fingers of Abigail grab my forearm.
"Maybe this isn't such a good idea. Let's just go."
Just as she pulls me away from the front door. It swings open. A fit but not muscular guy looks straight at Abigail. She hides behind me and avoids his glare. That must be Josh.
"Abi, why don't you just be a good girl and come home? Remember what I said I would do if you didn't?" He smirks.
"I'll answer that. You would post all the obscene photos that you took? Sure, go ahead." I challenged.
Josh was taken aback by my remark.
"Wh-who are you to interfere in this?"
"You don't have to know. All you have to do is hand me the phone, I'll delete the pictures and everything will be forgotten." I smiled.
"You don't know who you're dealing with girl!" He swings a right elbow towards me. I dodge which causes him to stagger, I knock him off balance, sweeping his right leg off the floor and throwing him onto the cold hard pavement beside me.
He groans and grimaces in pain, I pick up his phone and press his thumb onto the fingerprint sensor.
"And that's who you're dealing with, Abigail Greene's best friend." I smile.
°
"Ahh~~, that was a workout" I stretch and straighten my spine. We were back in the park, a slight breeze causes the leaves of the Oregon ash trees to rustle around us. I turn to look at Abigail and a teardrop slides down her cheek.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"It's nothing." She sniffles. "It's just that I'm so touched. You'd do all this for me."
I walk towards her and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you."
"It's okay." I chuckle. "What are friends for right?"
