Its been about six years since the vexicon. My brother and I now live in a glorified hole in the ground. After the the vexicon all of chicago has gone to hell. They built these tunnels under the city because the overstreets are full of muggers rapists and drug attics. Everyone I know refuses to even go near them. This morning started like any other.
I jumped up from my dusty old mattress that has by now glued itself to the grime covered floor and take in my surroundings. The gray paint chipping away leaving naked the horribly cracked wall and and the doorway that leads to the rest of the hole. I wander over to my pet chameleon, Jackal’s cage (which is really just a divot in a countertop, I think it used to be a sink) and put him on my shoulder don't ask about the name my brother jance named him before I was born I didn't really have a say in the matter. As I walk over to jance’s room Jackle settles and goes back to sleep on my shoulder. I step over the mound of clothing sitting on the dirty floor in between my room and Jance’s to find my 26 year old brother sprawled on his bed snoring loudly. I jog over to his bed side and shake him.
“Wake up!” I bellow into his ear, “you sound like a dying whale!” He sits up and looks at me with droopy still asleep eyes. I see his expression change and he smiles.
“At least I don't look like one” he taunts
“Just shut up and get up"
“Fine.” We exchange smerks and then burst out laughing.
“Let’s get going we have to start the search early today remember.” I say urgently
“No I don't remember, remind me again little bro?”
“After the “little” fight the skulls had with the rats both of them are going to be everywhere after like Six o'clock today” I remind him, “now get dressed and lets go!”
