Jackson's pov

"Jackson let's go we're gonna be late!"

I hurried myself down the stairs, pulling my hoodie on as I ran. My best friend Elizabeth was waiting for me downstairs so she could ride to school with me because of 'car trouble.' At least thats what she told her parents. But I knew she just wanted to spend time with me.
We hadn't talked much over the summer because Maddox, her over privileged, disoriented boyfriend thought that having guy friends would cause relationship problems. I promised her I wouldn't be the cause of something that was already there.

I whipped my body around the railing and came face to face with a blue eyed beauty. Her dark brown natural curly hair cascaded over her shoulders, and fell down to her lower back. She usually had it in a ponytail, but I liked it better this way.
She had on an old band T-shirt of mine that was too small, and light gray leggings that hugged her perfect curves. Her vans matched my black ones.
As my eyes found their way to hers she began to speak.
"Took you long enough, Maddy's gonna be pissed." I rolled my eyes. "I thought he hated when you called him that."
She looked down at the ground as if she were in thought and turned her left foot inwards towards her  right. "He does."

I sighed and grabbed my keys and my bag, one strapping it until I got to the car. I sat it in the backseat as Liza did the same with hers. Her bag was almost the same as mine except hers had pink detailing. She always said she hated pink, but Maddox had bought it for her so she used it anyway.

I sat down in the drivers seat and turned on the car. It wasn't long before Liza had her hands all over the radio. I silently tapped my fingers on the steering wheel as I drove. I could hear Liza's angelic voice sing softly along to a Panic! at the Disco song that was coming through the speakers. When we were younger, and I would stay the night, we would listen to music all night, until eventually I fell asleep to her voice.

I pulled into the parking lot of our school and could already see Maddox, leaned up against his red BMW, angry. I rolled my eyes and pulled into my regular parking spot.

"Wish me luck," Liza said, opening her door. I kept my eyes on her as she walked towards the bastard. He threw his hands in the air, shouting at her.
She had always begged me to stay out of it, for his sake. She knew I could single handedly kill his ass.

Her arms crossed over her chest and she glanced back an forth between my car and him, as if she were calling for help, but I knew she wasn't. She wanted me to stay in the car. I could treat her so much better than that, but obviously I don't have the guts to tell her.

Yeah, we know. Otherwise you'd be her boyfriend.

I loved Liza. A lot. She held herself together so well when it came to situations like this. I knew I was in love with her in the second grade. She sat down beside me when no one else did.

"Hi!"
A sudden squeal flooded my left ear. "I'm Liza!"
I looked over at the girl. Her hair was in pigtails with pink bows. She smiled, I couldn't help but smile back. She started taking the bows out.
"What are you doing," I whispered.
"I hate pink."
The next few days, she started to become my best friend. She brought me lollipops everyday and would invite me to come to her house for dinner. Her parents loved me. They were my favorites. My mom and dad always argued, so I would just stay at Liza's.

I walked to class, waiting on Liza by the door, same way I did every day. I played with the ends of my jacket strings, thinking about where I had gotten it. Liza and I had gone shopping last weekend after she and Maddox got into it, yet again. Something about her shirt, which was definitely stupid reason to be mad at your girlfriend for a week, but Maddox still amazes me. I rolled my eyes at the thought.

Liza turned the corner and I could already tell she was mad. "What did he do," I said as she approached me.
"It wasn't him this time, it was Rachel."
Rachel Johnson. Head cheerleader, prom queen, Liza's bully since 5th grade. Also, she's out for Maddox, and has been since he dumped her for Liza.
"She's been trying to text Maddy all weekend, apparently she sent him nudes."
"And he's just now telling you?"
"No.. She told me. But-"
"Liza. He should've told you."
She looked down, tears forming in her eyes.
"She said he didn't respond.. so I'm guessing he didn't look. But I just have this feeling that he did," she said as a tear fell.

Why do you let him hurt you like this?! Can't you see I'm the one in love with you-

"I'm sure he didn't L... It's okay."
She nodded and wiped her tears, walking into class ahead of me.

Keep it down up there, will you?!

When you stop letting her go.

I hate that stupid voice.

I heard that, I'm literally in your head Jackson.
