Rev. Fr. Sylvester has always been a man who do not fancy material things right from childhood. Irrespective of people's opinions, he has always maintain his belief and uphold it. What is life that we have to kill ourselves for it? What is wealth nothing but satisfaction. He had decided to buy bicycle when he was a Deacon at St. Monica Catholic Church in Emu. The parish was poor, and had only a Peugeot 404 as parish car for the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Johnbull. The was not at that in good shape and most times was in use by the priest, and getting mobility was usually a thug of war. He would wait for over two hours or have to treck the journey. To reduce the stress, he bought a bicycle. To him, do not just acquire thing because you have the means, you must see the need and use of such thing. Buying things you don't need is a waste. He has always hold on to the opinion that there is no need to get a motorcycle when a bicycle can do the work.
When he was ordained a priest six months later, he was given a prado jeep by a famous knight of st. John, third degree; Prof. Alfred Iyeke, he sold it and use the proceeds to support some boys and girls in the street, it has always been his desire to help youths and children who despite the odds of life, did not relent in their struggles. Those who were wheelbarrow pushers, still balancing other people, he bought wheelbarrows for them, those who were grinders and had no engines of their own, he bought for them. He did too many good things that put smiles on less privileges' faces. One thing is that, as far as Rev. Fr. Sylvester was concern he was to celebrate and administer the sacraments. He never preach repentance or the kingdom of God to anyone, he wouldn't preach the bible or Jesus himself to people. But one thing was fantastic about him, he was living the bible, he was living Jesus, he was living the gospel and it was visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. He was only three years now as a priest but it is to everyone that rev. Fr. Sylvester was over 20 years as priest. The church loved him, Bishop admire him and his fellow priests cherished him. He was made chaplain of the Society of St. Vincent the Paul perhaps because the curia saw his burning desire towards the poor. And assistant chaplain to Justice Development Peace Commission (JDPC) perhaps because of his love for justice. Father Sylvester's hands of goodwill and charity extends beyond Catholic. To even Muslims and unbelievers. His fame has spread and in the town where he was parish priest for sometimes now, has witnessed people convert to Catholicism including a number of Muslim and unbelievers. The prayer of everyone was that may Bishop forget to transfer him. They all know that Catholic Church is used to transferring priests when the people began to enjoy them or get use to them.
It was easy for Rev. Fr. Sylvester as Deacon to use bicycle but now it was seeming an impossible thing, yet he is still not seeing reason to buy a car. Even when people are willing to buy for him. He went for a motorcycle. He sold bicycle and added money to buy Suzuki motorcycle because he needed something for himself and at least one altar knight, the mass box for outstations masses...
