Chapter 26: I was never touch-feely with my rents….so what just happened?
Once I got my entire luggage, I made my way to Lake standing by Starbucks. She was laughing and smiling while talking with Zayn but when she noticed me coming, the expression on her face faded, replaced by a look of sympathy.
After Louis has packed up all our things, we wasted no time calling the others about the news and they decided to come home with us since it’d be no fun anymore and besides, Winter Break was in two weeks so that meant teachers and students were getting busy handing all projects and homeworks before the Fall Formal. Fall Formal is an annual school dance on the last day before winter break. Everybody’s going to be dressed up fabulously and it’s absolutely going to be a fun night.
But I wasn’t thrilled about that matter anymore, nor was I even thrilled with the thought of winter break. For all I know, I could be living the hospital for weeks. Right now, all I can focus on about is how to deal with my parents especially with my ill dad.
“Got my luggage, let’s go.” I said with a forced smile and turned around.
Zayn and Lake were close behind me and I can hear them whisper something about me.
I sighed, turning to face them, “you know I may not be a vamp with super hearing skills but I can sure hear you well.”
Lake cracked a fake smile and grabbing my elbow, “c’mon baby girl. Zayn and I are just worried of you.”
I snorted and rolled my eyes, turning to walk away again but she caught up beside me pretty quick, “I know Lake, you pity me. And just to let you know, I don’t need your sympathy okay? I’m perfectly fine; I just need to know how to deal with this crap. Other than that, you don’t have to worry.”
She slapped my arm.
“Ow!”
“You know the least you could do is to pretend you actually appreciate the act of compassion your best friend and her boyfriend and the rest of your friends are feeling for you, instead of playing numb and acting cool about all this.”
Again, for the nth time, why does my best friend have to be on the right side?
“Whatever,” I said, sighing in defeat.
“You know I’m always here for you, right?” she asked, engulfing me in a tight hug. “And I know you can do this.”
I nodded. We continued our mini trip towards the waiting limo. Harry helped me put my luggage on the other car behind the limo. I know he was trying to say something, maybe to smooth out the tension within me. “Say it, whatever you wanna say.”
He closed the trunk and smirked, “I’d say fuck the management.”
I actually found myself revealing a real smile and a chuckle, “what I expected. Anyway, this isn’t about the management.”
