Tyler walks cautiously while holding his knife down the street. Not one zombie has run twords us for about two hours of walking. Even after calling our friends names, it was complete silence.
"What if they are..." I start but can't finish the question. Every bone in my body just wants to give up and sit down and cry. My feet are screaming to stop from so much walking and I feel like I have to pee again.
Tyler sighs and continues to look around us. "Don't think like that."
"You know I wasn't going to say anything but you called them your friends." I smirk at him.
All he does is shrug his shoulders. "We have grown up together, why wouldn't they be my friends?"
A secluded diner is off to the left and we walk by it quietly then get back into our conversation. "Well you just never took the time to get to know or talk to any of us."
Tyler scoffs at me. "You don't know anything. Landon and I used to be best friends." He says, a little pain behind the statement.
"What happened?" I ask him since there's nothing else to talk about.
"Well you know Brian...he came up to me in middle school laughing. He told me I'd never pull the girls because I was ugly. And being the pubescent boy I was I panicked and began going to the gym and hanging out with my so called friends now. But in doing that I lost Landon as a friend and he moved on...to you guys." He says quietly. "So I had all the girls but not one real friend."
It's not a laughing matter but I want to laugh. I manage to hold it back and glance at him for a second. "That's deep." I offer a small smile. "So you think girls swoon over you because of your muscles?"
Tyler rolls his eyes one more at me. "Of course. I mean look at them." He flexes, showing off his biceps but it has no affect on me. I just continue to walk around and he goes back into defense mode. "Do you want to know something?" He asks me quietly and I hum in response. "You were the number one girl on Landon's cute girls list in middle school."
"So now we're just throwing everyone's secrets everywhere?" I nearly scream at the new voice interrupting the conversation. Landon steps out from behind a car with a smirk on his lips. He runs a hand through his long hair and looks at us weirdly. "What? Did I scare you?" He asks with an eyebrow raised.
"Yes dude." Tyler speaks up and settles down slightly. "Where is everyone else?" He looks around.
Landon scratches the back of his head and shrugs. "We all got split up. The panic was real I guess." He catches up and stands at my other side as we keep walking. "I think Carmen and Myles were together and the three sketchy people were together. I split off myself. And Damon didn't make it." He says sadly as if it were his fault.
We simply nod at him and Tyler is red from embarrassment of telling Landon's secret. They glance at eachother occasionally until I break the looks. "Are you alright?" I ask Landon quietly as we walk. "No scratches or bites right?" I ask him and look him over.
"No, surprisingly. The two never came for us but there was about a hundred of them, just running down this highway and that's what really split us." He explains.
"Why didn't you say that before?" Tyler asks him with a weird face.
"I forgot to." Landon shrugs nonchalantly and looks as if he's about to fall asleep from exhaustion.
"We should take a break." I nudge Tyler gently. "I think we're all a bit tired."
Tyler nods and glances at Landon who just follows us quietly. "Yo Landon, you should have seen Kaleah last night. The zombies followed us and she kicked Anna's head in and nearly chopped off Casper's. Badass right?"
