Clouds

I lay on the ground with my eyes closed, the warm grass creating a cushion beneath me. My vision was filled with orange from the warm light of the sun shining down upon my closed eyelids. I kept my hands under my head, my right leg resting on my seleft knee. A soft breeze blew through the field, the cool air brushing against my skin and sending a shiver down my spine. The day was beautiful, and so was she. Her sea blue hair was splayed out behind her, making it seem as if she was resting her head in a puddle in which the sky was reflected. Her skin, just as tan as mine, was smooth. Almost as if it had been seen together from the softest silks the world had to offer. Her eyes, a dull shade of green that seemed to be made out of colored glass, stared up at the sky, watching the clouds.

I heard her shifting her body, moving to get more comfortable.

"What does that one look like to you?" She asked, poking my shoulder.

I opened my eyes and looked over at her. She was staring at me, waiting for me to do something. I sighed, and looked back up at the summer sky.

"They all look like clouds to me." I said after a few seconds.

"Well then you aren't looking hard enough." She said, mock anger in her voice. She turned back to face the sky again. "Look hard enough and you can see all sorts of things!"

"Like what?" I asked, looming at the clouds.

"Come here." She said, tugging my shirt.

I moved over next to her, and she pointed straight up. "Look, that one looks like a sailboat."

I looked, but all I could see was a mass of fluffy white clouds. "I don't see it."

"You have no imagination, you know?" She sighed.

"I'm your anchor to the real world." I smiled, "And you know it."

"What would I do without you?" She asked sarcastically.

"Let's hope you never find out." I said, reaching for her hand. My fingers found hers, and we locked hands.

"Let's." She said, squeezing my hands.

We lay like that, our heads nearly touching and our bodies making a "L" shape, only for a few minutes before something caught my eye.

"Actually, that one kind of looks like a car." I said, pointing out the cloud that I saw.

"Where?" She asked, moving to make a mental path from my fingertip.

"See if?" I stretched my arm out further.

"I think I see it. The one next to the puppy?" She asked to clarify.

"Yeah I think so."

"See? All you had to do is look hard enough." She rolled over to lay next to me, "So what else do you see?"

And so we lay there for hours, laughing, smiling and pointing at the clouds.
