HER POV:

"Thanks for such a great night babe, it really ended so smoothly. I don't think I could've pictured it any better." Jake twists his lips into a sarcastic smile with a sardonic tone on his tongue. Now seated in the rough leather seat of his yellow 1978 Chevy, he turns the key to start the ignition.

I sit back and recollect the events that just took place. In the back of my mind, I can still picture him throwing that man over the pool table and shattering multiple bottles and glasses.

"We have been together for three years and you still don't know how to be a man and take the blame for something you did! Unbelievable." I scoff while I peer into his drunken eyes. I hated the person he became when alcohol took over.

"Something I did?" He raised his voice and pointed to his chest, looking at me with hard eyes. "Sorry for trying to protect you from that jackleg in there! You know what, you're right it's my fault, I pulled that guy aside and told him to hit on you and piss me off into the f***ing mountains! Yeah, my bad." His body turns to position himself forward-facing the windshield with his arm on the door and his hand rubbing his chin.

"Ha, okay," I rolled my eyes and reached for the door handle. "I'm not dealing with this tonight, I'm gonna get a ride home from someone else." With Jake in the background yelling curses at me, I make my way back to the entrance of the bar.

"Come back here, I said! You're not doing this again, walking off pouting because I tried to protect you."

I ignore him for a second while we stand there in the cold, our breath caught in clouds flustering through the winter wind. I turn and face him. I look him in the eyes thinking about whether this is the last straw. Thinking whether or not to cut this off right here and now. I look deep into his eyes. He was trying to protect me, but the problem is, "Jake, don't you get it. I don't need your protection. That guy in there was an old friend trying to catch up. He didn't say one derogatory thing towards me, yet you managed to freak out and screw things up yet again. How many chances do I need to give you until this ends?" With a small whimper in my voice, I start to tear up. "I don't know how much longer I can do this."

"Fine, you wanna leave me. Then go. Get out of here. I don't care. Leave." A tear rolls down his cheek as he takes a step backward before turning to his truck and opening the door. With a pause, he turns to me.

A few guys walk out of the bar and I turn to see who they are. I recognize the one leading the few but I can't make out his face. "Hey little mama, don't worry we'll take care of him... then we'll take care of you." He looks me up and down then his eyes move to Jake. The two men from behind grab me and throw me to the ground. Before I have the chance to look at what's going on behind me, I hear tires screeching and three gunshots.

I try to stand but my knees are scraped up from the force. I feel two strong hands on my arms and another pair on my hips. My body is thrown at the brick wall and one of the hands moves to my head. I feel my head being drawn back by my hair and then my forehead hits the wall. My eyes go black and I stop screaming. My body goes numb except for my cold palms and cheek. I can't feel, and I can't- can't- ca-.

HIS POV:

I wake up to the sound of a beeping noise. My eyes are blurry as I try to adjust them to the bright light coming from my left. I try to block the light with my hand and open my eyes a little more. Sitting up, I place my other hand behind me a little. A sharp pain rips through my shoulder and I fall back on the bed. Where am I? Is this a hospital? How did I get-? Then I remember. The vision of those guys walking towards us. All I remember is one of them hitting my hood and the other shooting a gun? Or did start reversing and then one shot? Or was I gone when the shots went off? I can't think and lay my head back on the pillow. Then my mind goes wild. My eyes wide open, I yell, "Where is she? Hello! Where is she? Where is she? Hello-."
