Right as I closed the locker room door behind me I fell to my knees once more, the weight of all my emotions finally got the best of me. Finally the one thing I strived for was mine, but at the same time, the one thing I dreaded had come true.
'What the hell was I thinking? Letting my guard down around Colby, and for what? Just to be lied to like always?' My thoughts were interrupted by the faint sound of buzzing coming from my bag. I checked the caller ID to see it was Matt and answered.
"Hello?" I couldn't tell what in the world he was saying, all I knew was that he couldn't contain his excitement. "Slow down, Matt I can't understand what you're saying" I chuckled as I plopped down on the bench.
"I saw you're match, I'm so proud of you" I could tell he was smiling widely on the other side of the phone. "You finally did it, you deserve it!" but as I held the title to my chest more tears escaped my eyes.
"Thanks Matt, but isn't it really early out there in Japan?"
"Yeah, it's almost noon." Right then I heard a knock at the locker room door.
"Well I'll let you go, I'm sure you want to get going." I wiped away the last of my tears and we said our goodbyes. "Come in" as soon as I hung up the phone I noticed I had 11 missed calls and 6 text messages, all from Seth, and all from before my match started.
"How's it going champ?" I could hear Dean's voice as he slowly peeked through the door.
I couldn't help but chuckle at his choice of words, "you're a dork, Ambrose."
"Saw your match" he sat beside me, dressed in his usual muscle shirt, jeans and gray leather jacket.
"So you saw I was a mess?"
"Nah, more like I saw you beat Nikki's ass" he laughed, obviously trying to lighten the mood.
"Have you talked to Seth?" I asked without looking up from my title.
"From what I've heard, he's been holed up in Stephanie's office, has been since about 4" I couldn't help but tighten my grip on the title. I wanted to believe that we might have had something, but at this point I don't want anything to do with him. "I suggest you stick around though."
"Why?"
"Because later on tonight I have a match against Seth and I want you on commentary."
"What?!"
"You should probably change, cus you look like a train wreck" he ruffled my hair.
"You're one to talk" I scoffed but couldn't help but break into a smile.
"Look Vanessa, I know you've been through a lot, and I have no right to ruin your night, but I want you there."
"Why?"
"Would you just listen? Stubborn" he grumbled that last part as he stood up.
I narrowed my eyes up at him, trying to figure out the enigma that is the lunatic fringe. "Fine, but I'm not wearing anything fancy" I stood up and swung my title over my shoulder.
"I'll admit that title looks good on you."
"Jealous?" I smiled proudly as the gems glistened in the light.
"Hurry up and get ready, one more match and then I'm in the main event" he gave me a tight squeeze and left.
'I can do this right? I mean I just won the Diva's Championship, I can go out there like I've never even met Seth.' With that I quickly changed out if my ring gear and into a white Avenged Sevenfold cut up tank top, black vest, faded jeans, and white Vans with black deathbats, but my most important accessory was the title hanging over my shoulder.
After readjusting my hair and makeup my phone was blowing up with messages from Thomas, Laura and everyone back home, but I refused to read them knowing Seth's messages was among them.
I left the locker room, leaving my phone behind and headed towards gorilla. I spotted Dean and waited beside him. "You alright?" he placed a hand on the shoulder free of my title.
"Ha! You forget who you're talking to. Vanessa, professional ass kicker, and Diva's Champion." I held my head high with pride as I rolled my shoulders, and when we heard the sound of a revving engine, Dean walked out and I followed behind.
