Abandoned. From a young age, Rebecca Riley Goodman and her brother, Brian Lawrence Goodman were abandoned by their mum and dad.
Well, not really abandoned, more like their mum and dad got into a huge argument, a monumental argument that split their family apart. They simply got caught in the crossfire and were left alone due to both parties being too angry at each other to mind anything else, anything like their children.
It wasn't their fault, it wasn't anyone's fault. It was merely business.
You see, Rebecca and Brian grew up, well before 'the war of mum and dad' happened, in a very rich environment, in a very illegal environment.
Let me fill you on the details, their mum and dad, Carrie Stevenson Webber and Davidson Derek Goodman, respectively, were the top dogs. They ran everything, they ran their city's economy and everything in between.
From small businesses, to high end brands, they controlled everything. They even controlled any individuals bank account, but they wouldn't stoop that low, unless they did. Yes that's right, they did everything illegally to get where they are now.
Stole money from businesses, made them go bankrupt, owned almost everything and obtained everything in a not-so-fair way. From drug trafficking, human trafficking, killing off their competition, and basically everything in between was done to get to the top.
Carrie and Davidson were at the top of their game, well until they met each other. They decided that, "Hey, why not combine the two powerhouses together and make everyone tremble in fear," and so they did.
At first it was simply for business, you know the deal. Get married and get each other's share from their illegal business. No one could stop them, any attempt would be laughable. The police can't even do anything since their pay checks come from, you guessed it, Carrie and Davidson.
But then, "Shock! Amazement! A surprising turn of events!" Carrie got pregnant with their first child, this was Brian.
You'd think they would have him aborted since it would get in the way of business and that having family would be dangerous since any other hotshots trying to take the top spot would basically pin a target on their backs, but they didn't.
They figured having a next of kin to pass their illegal trade to is a good idea. So they decided a second child, a female was in order. 2 years after Brian was born, they conceived Rebecca, the main misfit of this here story, well half of it anyways. You'll be meeting the other half soon, not that soon, but soon.
That aside, since Carrie and Davidson were always too busy, they hired a butler, Alexander Lorelei Oreander. He was the best thing Bex, a.k.a. Rebecca, and Brian had. And for good reason too, if Carrie and Davidson decided they would raise their children instead of hiring a butler, God knows that they'd learn how to shoot a gun by age 10.
Thankfully Alexander raised them well. Really well. He was even the one who raised them when Mr. and Mrs. Tyrant went loose and had a divorce and he was basically the parent figure to Bex and Brian for a great chunk of their lives.
So long was Alexander there to raise them, for 24 years, he was the one who was by their side. Now aged 57, he was still taking care of 22 year old Bex and 24 year old Brian.
Alexander raised Bex and Brian like they were his own. Taught them the proper way to act, to act not like their horrible mum and dad. He raised them with no help at all, especially when Bex and Brian were abandoned at age 12 and 14, respectively.
How could he leave them? They were the closest that he got to a family, of course he's going to take care of them! Take care of them until his grey hairs were overflowing. He had no other choice.
At age 12, Bex was taught how to defend herself, Alexander taught them how to handle a gun, how to hide, how to get information, and basically taught them how to get shady like their parents.
Admittedly, this contradicted what Alexander wanted for them in the first place. It was rough, it was painful, but he had no choice. If he didn't teach them about everything shady, they wouldn't last a day out in the streets with a huge ass target on their backs.
Without the protection of the Goodman mansion, they were basically helpless sheep wandering around the streets.
Nonetheless, after 4 years of living under Alexander's supervision, Davidson finally remembered that, "Oh right, I had kids," and decided he would help them out.
But not in the way you'd expect. He would send them money every month for their expenses, in secret of course, and would sometimes send out spies and agents to look out for them whenever Alexander needed a break, all in secret mind you. He had to do it in secret, if Carrie found out, well that'd be the end of them.
To this day he still managed to keep it a secret from Carrie, yes they were that good. Of course they are, have you even been paying attention?
That aside, Davidson did this, not because he actually cared, but because he needed to take care of his next of kin. God knows when the day he'd die actually arrive, so he's helping Alexander take care
of them so that someone can take over the family "business."Once he dies, Brian inherits Davidson's trade and once Brian dies, Bex takes over, wherein hopefully, Bex can pass it over to her next of kin. If not, Carrie gets the share and she'd be the most powerful person, she'd be doing all the shots, and we can't have that now can we?
Anyways, enough with introductions. The day came, the most feared day of them all came, we learn of Davidson's death and that it will be held post-haste. And with that, the story is set, let's move on now, shall we?
