not my king!; Namjoon flashed his braces and dimples at the camera, his cheeks a rosy pink with dimples that settled into his soft skin. He felt confident tonight despite the giggles on the side and his acne crawling over his temples. He felt handsome tonight in his suit.
He wouldn't feel handsome without his shining star beside him. Having his boyfriend link arms with him, his infamous bunny smile they gained quite large liking around the students. His godforsaken smooth skin radiating a perfect pink on his cheeks as the camera light flashes. They both knew he looked amazing even with the monotone disgusting beige photo shoot background, and with the tuxedo that every boy at prom seem to be wearing.
"We need to hurry up, Prom King and Queen announcement is soon. I have to be in front," Jungkook persisted, grabbing Namjoon's hand and snatching the photo from the photographer as soon as it finished printing. "I don't want to push past people when I-we win, you know?"
"Don't stress out so much, babe," Namjoon laughs softly, trying not to bump into people as Jungkook push past others quickly. Having to mutter small apologies for Jungkook's sake. "It's just a crown, silly-"
"Yeah, a crown that's gonna prove the whole lacrosse team that I'm practically a god," Jungkook scoffed, "As if being captain isn't enough, I got to show those jokes that I'm legend tier."
Namjoon could only let out a small smile and laugh with fake lightheartedness. Squeezing his boyfriend's hand with anger that could be easily mistaken as reassurance.
"Of course, babe!" Namjoon smiled with an unidentifiable glint in his eyes.
Jungkook pulled his hand away and wiped his palm on his pants. "Don't hold my hand so tight, you're making it all sweaty and I can't shake the principal's hand like that."
The music died down when the glistening crowns pulled the attention of the stage lights in front of two elegant thrones. The crowd turned silent as the principal made way to the microphone.
The crowns shined with jewels and gems, and Jungkook's mind drooled at the sight of it. He knew he had his name on one of them.
He's been working months to get him and Namjoon on Prom list level. Sure, Namjoon may not be exactly ideal for being well-known around school, but that just meant Jungkook had to work harder to get him up there. If being Prom King was god tier, imagine being prom king with your boyfriend. That meant they both had to be absolutely perfect.
Maybe, Namjoon is lacking in some areas to Jungkook, but he can fix that. If they both end up getting on that school budget stage.
Maybe, Jungkook is an ass, but he can fix that. Right?
"We had many votes for Prom King and Queen for our beloved High School Sweethearts," The principal said into the microphone, "But there can only be two, and this year's students picked for your annual Prom King and Queen are..."
Jungkook's heart raced to the sound of the tearing of an envelop in the principal's hands. His own fingers crossed behind his back
Namjoon wanted to leave. he knew that crown isn't gonna fit his head, but break his heart.
"Jeon Jungkook and Lisa Manoban."
A small majority of the students squealed in victory. No, they weren't dating, but apparently instead of girls getting jealous: girls actually liked them together. Lisa knew it, Jungkook knew it. Namjoon hated it.
Namjoon took that small majority and believed it was the whole crowd. It crushed him. He was with Jungkook. He was his boyfriend.
His fists clenched at the sight of Jungkook walking up stage all confidently yet fake surprised with the softball captain, Lisa. Two captains, two well-know students, and two whose chemistry seems almost too lovey dovey.
Jungkook wore the crown with pride, grinning sickeningly sweet at his victory. He couldn't wait to boast amongst his team members, ready to pounce with full force of cockiness.
The boy had forgotten his upset boyfriend who watched front row. Wrapping his arms around the Prom Queen, and resting his head against her shoulder for a photo as the photography pushed through the front row - shoving Namjoon aside.
Namjoon watched every camera flash, getting sick to the stomach. The giggles got louder, and he felt his cheeks crawl with heat of embarrassment. His shoulders lifted and dropped heavily.
One last camera flash: Lisa had grabbed Jungkook's chin and pressed her lips against his. Perfect couple photo.
Namjoon yanked his matching boutonnière and threw it onto the floor. Quietly shoving past people, no longer being the soft apologizing boy from before. He glared back at those who snapped at him for pushing.
Not. My. King.
