Hey it's the guy from the coffee shop! :) Do you still wanna hang out? The simple message kept circling around and around in Ryeley's head. She was trying to focus on shopping she really was. But she caught herself peeking at the message every time Lilly was trying clothes on, or blabbering about what skirt matched what tube top; Instead of deleting it like she knew she should have.

This was ridiculous she thought to herself. She pressed the 'delete this number' button. 'Are you sure you would like to delete unknown?'  Ryeley hesitated before hitting 'yes'. There. Out of sight out of mind.

Rye couldn't honestly blame herself for not deleting the message sooner. Her life was bland and boring. The message was unexpected, new, exciting. And for the first time in a long time she got to wonder 'what if'? What if she replied? What if he went to her school? What if she knew him? What if? Because sitting there waiting for Lilly to get out of the changing room there was no what if's.

She knew Lilly would buy the off-white tube top instead of the comfortable purple leggings. That's just how it was. She knew she'd join cheerleading again this year. She knew she'd have to break up with her boyfriend when school started up again because his reputation on the football team was steadily plummeting. She knew she'd dye her hair blonde again before school started because her roots were starting to show. She knew after high school she'd go to college for designing clothing. She knew she'd go to the nearby community college.

That was that. No what if's about it. And that was fine. It would always be that way and that was fine. So then why didn't she delete the message right away? She brushed it off as a mere need for thrill and made a mental note to plan a day at an amusement park. As her and Lilly left the mall she sighed. "What's wrong?" Lilly asked. "You've been acting different." Rye put on her most convincing smile, "Nope. Same old me Lil." Always same old me she thought to herself.
