"Mom I've got everything, you can calm down!"Madison exclaims, heaving her trunk down the stairs to her mother, who is fretting over the time."We have to get going or we'll miss the train!"she exclaims, grabbing her keys off the counter and throwing her jacket on."Do you need me to carry your trunk?"she asks, looking at her 11 year old daughter."I'm fine mom, really.Let's just put this in the trunk and get going-"she's interrupted by her mothers sudden realization,"YOUR SIBLINGS!"she yells, running upstairs.Oops... she thinks, and walks outside with her old, wooden trunk. She then walks back inside so she can say goodbye to her siblings until winter break."Bye Ashlyn!Bye David!"she calls, hugging David, her younger brother, and awkwardly waving at her slightly older sister."Ash,you're watching David until I get back, right?"Her mom asks, looking at the shorter but older daughter in front of her.She nods, and Madison and her mom head outside to the car.
Madison is a witch.Yeah yeah, that doesn't sound possible. She didn't think it was real when she got an owl carrying a letter fly straight into her window either. She's what other witches and wizards call a muggle born, because, well, that's kinda what they are.None of her other family members are witches or wizards,at least from what they know-David is still a bit too young.
Madison is on her way to Platform 9 3/4,the entrance point to the Hogwarts Express. The letter she received in August explained what exactly it was and how it worked,so she knew what she was doing.(She had also reread the letter over multiple times since she got it because of how amazed she was)
Madison's mom pulls up to Kong's Cross, stopping the car and stepping out."Here we are..."She whispers, looking around in awe.Madison heaves her suitcase out of the trunk, stepping up to her mom and looking around as well."Mom,I'm gonna be late!We have to go!""Y-Yes!C'mon!"she answers, grabbing Madison's hand and leading her through the crowd to the pillar between platform 9 and 10."Here we are.."she says, looking down at her daughter. She takes in her dark brown hair, but and those deep hazel eyes that always look so full of excitement.Madison pulls her into a hug."Bye mom...Ill write every week,I promise!""I know you will sweetie.Go have fun."She says, and watches as her youngest daughter runs through an invisible barrier between Platforms 9 and 10.
Madison pushes through the crowd of Wizards and Witches, fighting to get a good seat on the train away from people. There's people in red and yellow sweaters arguing with people in green ones, and a blonde haired girl is munching on what looks to be like candy slugs.Madison smiles, and finally boards the train. She drags her suitcase behind her as she looks from compartment to compartment, silently praying she finds one where she can sit alone. She's not really a people person.
She eventually ends up finding one,and sits down. "I could get used to this..."she sighs, and pulls out her wand to examine it for the Kajilionth time. It's Maplewood with a unicorn hair as the core, and it's 11 3/4" long. It's been her favorite thing to look at since she went to Diagon Alley with her Dad last week.
This has been a surprise to all of them.Ashlyn was slightly jealous of the fact Madison got some attention for awhile, and David continuously complained that he wanted to go and "it wasn't fair." Thinking about their reactions almost made her miss them. But it's been super hard on her parents, they had no clue what to do or what to buy,and had to write multiple times to Professor McGonagall, the Headmaster of Hogwarts.
Just as she's reminiscing on these thoughts, there's a soft tap on the window. "H...hello..?Im sorry to bother you,but there's no other compartments open...do you mind if I sit in here..?"a short girl with short blonde hair asks timidly, dragging her bright pink suitcase behind her. No people no people! The voice in her head kept reminding her,but she ignored it."Sure!Sit down."Madison answers, smiling and gesturing to the seat across from her.
The girl sits down, retracting the handle on her suitcase.Madison strikes up a conversation, silence the only thing making her more tense than company. "What's your name?" "Reese."she replies, rubbing her neck. "Well, hello Reese. My name is Madison. It's nice to meet you!" The girl, now known as Reese, smiles now. "So,do you know a lot about Wizarding Life?"she asks, sitting back slightly and tucking her dark blonde hair behind her ear. "Not really...I'm I'm..."she hesitates, unsure if this is common with normal Wizarding folks.Reese awaits the rest of the answer."I'm Muggle Born, just found out I was a witch last month..."
"Really! What are muggles like?!"Reese excitedly asks, hands gripping the edge of her seat."Excuse me...muggles..?What's a muggle?"Madison asks, cocking her head slightly to the side."Oh,right.My bad. That's what we call non-wizard folk." "Makes sense,I guess.Well,to answer your question, not much different from us.They just can't use magic."
"Oh.Not as interesting as my mum made them out to be,huh." Nope.Sorry to burst your bubble." "Eh,it's cool. So,I'm betting you would like to hear some about us wizard folk?"Reese asks, looking at Madison with a look of sympathy and excitement. She nods, laughing slightly."I barely know anything." "Well, then let's start with the basics........."Reese starts, and explains Wizard life for half the the train ride.Madison doesn't mind, she's been interested the whole time.
After a long couple of hours, they finally reach Hogwarts.Madison can't believe her eyes."It's amazing..."she whsipers, stepping off the train and onto the platform."Firs years'!"she hears somebody yelling, and looks to locate the voice."Firs years' over here!"
The man who's yelling is tall, like, extremely tall, with a big fluffy brown mane of hair on his head. She walks over, sliding on her robes. The man smiles at the group of kids, and helps them all into boats. They ride across the water,Madison stares in awe at how the water shimmers so perfectly. They get to the shore and step off, walking in a group to a young man standing up on the stairs."Hello.Im Professor Longbottom,I'm the Gryffindor Head of House.I'll be showing you to the sorting hat,but first I'll have to explain what exactly to be expecting.I will call your name off a list, and you will walk up to the stool and set the hat on your head. There are four different houses you could be sorted into.Gryffindor,Slytherin,Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw.Gryffindor's value bravery and chivalry,Slytherins are cunning and ambitious,Hufflepuff' are loyal and hardworking, while Ravenclaw' are intelligent and creative.Once sorted, you will join the other people of your house at your table. Now,lets
head in,shall we?"he gestures to the doors, and they open wide. They stumble in,chattering quietly amongst themselves.
"Quiet down! It's time for sorting!"a woman wearing green robes yells over the audience, and the hall goes silent. "First off,Bordner,Reese!"Reese steps up on the stool."Hufflepuff!"he calls, and she smiles as she skips to the table themed yellow.A couple more names pass, she picks out a few like "Kumfer,Connor!" And "Knowles,Alyxis!"But doesn't really pay attention until she hears,"Robinette,Madison!"
She carefully steps up onto the stool, butterflies in her stomach.Everyone is looking at her,and her anxiety is kicking in."Hmm...creative,definitely.Loyal,ambitious...well...Tough decision, but I'm going to go with Gryffindor-!"Madison smiles with relief and walks over to the red and gold table, sitting down and smiling at the older students as she plows down on her food.
Eventually, the Prefects lead them all upstairs to their dormitories, the girl prefect who Madison saw was named "Emera" had taken her and the other first year girls up into their dormitory.
It's nothing like she'd ever seen before. The beds are draped with red and gold satin curtains, and the bedsheets are warm and cozy."I could get used to this..."she mumbles into her pillow, smiling to herself.
