The Strange Island
I awoke suddenly to find myself on a deserted island with a mysterious box.
I was sailing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Santa Barbara, California with my friend, Annabel.
“The wind is blowing really hard!” Annabel yelled holding onto her hat.
The wind was blowing really hard and picking up a storm.
“I hope the lightning doesn’t hit our sail!” Annabel grabbed two life jackets and threw one to me.
“Hold on, Annabel!” I shouted as I tried to keep the boat floating. By that time our boat was being pushed around by the terrible tropical storm. It got worse because we were sailing right on the Equator. We were being pushed around so much that I didn’t know what happened but the last thing that I heard was a light scream.
Soon Annabel and I were laying on the beach. I was dripping wet and I still had my life jacket on.
“Annabel, Annabel,” I ran over to where Annabel was laying on the beach.
“Oh! What happened?” Annabel asked with a frightened expression on her face. “Did the storm pass? What happened to our boat? How did we get here?” Annabel went on and on.
“Annabel, the storm must have pushed us to this island. We will be okay if we stay together.”
“Hey look!” Annabel got up and walked over by the water and picked up a box. “Look at this. Did we have it in our boat?”
“No, nothing was in our boat except for our lunch, life jackets, and us.” I replied.
“It just won’t open!” Annabel struggled to open the box.
“Annabel, look!” I pointed to a huge tropical forest.
“Oh, no! I’m not going in there!” Annabel stepped back. “ It doesn’t matter, we aren’t going in there anyway. Right?”
“Well, maybe someone is in there and can help us,” I told her.
“Okay let’s go. Should we bring that box?”
“If you want to but, Annabel, we need to stay together.” I grabbed Annabel’s arm and we walked forward. We walked into the dark, mysterious jungle.
“What if there are wild animals or poisonous spiders or dangerous plants?” Annabel looked like she was going to cry.
Annabel squeezed my arm. “Calm down,” I commanded.
We heard a loud bird whistle. Annabel screamed in fright. “Ahh! Spider!” Annabel yelled. A huge spider was crawling toward us. “Run!” Annabel yelled.
I ran after her, trying to keep up with her. Then Annabel was nowhere to be seen.
“Annabel!” I yelled but there was no answer. I walked on in the direction Annabel went. “Annabel!” I yelled again. “Where are you?” By this time I was really scared. Then, I heard the bird again. I didn’t think about what it was, so I ran as fast as I could. I was running through the jungle and then I tripped over a big rock. Then right in front of me was a huge, black panther. He stared at me. I didn’t know what to do and I was shaking with fright. Suddenly another panther jumped in front of the black one. First I thought they were going to turn on me, but then the brown one jumped on the black one and before I knew it I was watching two huge jungle cats fight. I started to back up and I wanted to run away but I was so scared I could not move.
