Were-animals/Shapeshifters

There are legends of shapeshifters from all over the world, as many as there are for vampires. In some places, the two are the same thing. In this case, it is not so. They have the same strengths as dhampirs. They can also, as the name suggests, shift into an animal relative to their personality. The moon cycle has no effect on the time they shift into their animal, and have the same kind of immortality vampires do.

Were-animals can be any kind of animal, usually mammals. When in human form, they look just like any person, albeit more healthy. Shapeshifters take on the attributes of their animal, such as a tracking ability, or able to see particularly well at night. They also have the ability to "infect" humans and turn them into a were-animal. The process is unknown to us, as they will not share the secret.

These creatures are as deadly as vampires, but they are a sort of ally; shapeshifters are long-time enemies of them. One thing makes them  especially dangerous: were-animals can have very unstable emotions. This likely is a result of their form being unstable, as they can shift on a moment's notice.
