Harriet was already an emotional wreck screaming Lucy at the phone but I was processing what I heard. Obviously three men from the scuffle of feet on the carpeted floor, the growls would signify; supernatural probably a werewolf but the third voice spoke in old Romanian.
By the time I was done with the information, Harriet was a sobbing mess, her mascara; a new facial paint for her distressed state.

"Get up!" I said straining my ears to listen for any sound and I was right someone was in the house and it definitely wasn't Harriet's parents because those were combat boots. The person was making his way up the stairs and I turned around to face her with a glare, using my weak hand to cover her mouth while miming the words "listen".
She nodded her head weakly, staring with frightened eyes at the door. There was a slight hesitation at the door and I was in my fighting stance. After a few heartbeats the door was pushed open with a force. He was 6 feet; the tall kind. He had overgrown stubble, weighing at least 300 pounds from the way he walked. He definitely was Caucasian and obviously not military. He was not holding any weapons and that was a bad sign which meant he must be good in hand-hand combat. I studied his slow antagonizing walk towards us and I knew his weakness. He had a wicked glint in his eyes like when a hunter corners a prey, he wanted to taunt before he kills.

He reached for Harriet first which I knew he would, my left hand that had been nursing my blade came out like a flash and I gave him a deep cut across his wrist making sure to severe the radial artery. He gave out a loud scream cussing in Russian as he bent over to grab his hand; I quickly aimed for his liver and pushed my blade into the left side of his abdomen, kicked him to the floor in a bloody mess. I grabbed Harriet who was still dazed at the situation. We bust into her parents room, entered the bathroom as I pulled the rows of toothbrushes out of the racket. She started quivering like she was on drugs and that was not a good sign; it meant she was going into shock. I hit her hard across her cheeks to get her attention.
"hey, look at me, look at me. We need to get out of here or we are going to die, so stay focused, okay" I said with a tight smile which got her to calm down as she took deep breaths, her hand slowly moved up to touch her red-stained cheeks from where I hit her.
"did you just hit me" she croaked out.
"yes and I would do it again if you blank out on me" I replied shoving the toothbrushes by the edge of the window to pull it open.
"Ashley, how did you know how to do that" she asked, her voice shaking slightly.
"YouTube" I shrugged out, thinking she was referring to how I was able to open up the window with the toothbrushes.
"you learnt how to kill a man on YouTube??" she said in disbelief.
"oh that, he's not dead yet, it depends on who gets to him first" I replied in a non-chalant tone. I could tell from the look on her face that she didn't buy the act I was putting up but I quickly spoke up before she did.
"come on , we've got to go" I said urging her to climb the toilet and hoist herself over through the window. I waited till I heard a thud before I followed suit and immediately I did we were surrounded by a bunch of vampires and they were ready to feed.

Yep, Ashley is about to see things differently and chapter three is a whole different ball game.
