The young boy, once again, witnessed the verbally and physically abusing argument of his parents. This went on every night. Tired of all the fighting, he went back into his and his brothers' shared room. Slamming the door shut, he dragged himself back to bed. This made his brothers worried though they knew the reason of their brother's misery.
"Are they arguing again?"
Seokjin just nod in response to his little brother Taehyung. Namjoon also got used to all the screaming just like his older brother. Taehyung, however, was bothered by all of this. He wanted them to make up. He wanted his old family back. Happy, peaceful... whole.
Seokjin seemed to notice this. He simply patted his brother's shoulder and gave a brotherly smile.
"Its going to be alright, TaeTae. You're only five years old, you're too young to understand"
"I'm old enough to care"
Namjoon and Seokjin exchanged looks and looked back at their younger brother. Namjoon leaned down next to Taehyung and smiled.
"Do you wanna do something fun?"
Namjoon's words brought light to Taehyung's face. He jumped up excited of his brother's suggestion. He nodded showing a bright expression and flashing his signature, as his brothers called it, box smile.
Seokjin stood up and turned the lights off. This made Taehyung scared but he knew he could trust his brothers. Seokjin brought something out from under his bed. It was a small lamp that had shapes carved on it. Seokjin lit it and soon the whole room was surrounded by beautiful silhouettes of all sorts.
This mesmerized Taehyung which made his sadness go away. There was nothing bothering him anymore. It was just him and his brothers. It was like a wondrous dream in Taehyung's perspective. But this dream turned into a nightmare as soon as they heard glass shattering and their mother's cry of agonizing pain from downstairs.
Taehyung gripped onto Namjoon's shirt in fright. Taehyung was close to tears as the voice of their mother began to fade. Seokjin took the initiative to stand up and see what happend.
"Wait here and never come out unless I say so" he whispered to his brothers and they obliged. Seokjin slowly opened the door and tip-toed his way down stairs. Walking to the kitchen slowly, his heartbeat raised, afraid of what he was going to see.
As soon as Seokjin stepped foot inside the kitchen, he had wished all of it was just a nightmare. His whole world stopped and he knew his heart shattered. The sight of his mother bleeding on the floor, his father's blood-stained hands, shattered pieces of a plate scattered around the kitchen floor.
Seokjin dropped to the floor and cried. Slowly, his cries turned into screams of agony. Though he couldn't hear anything anymore, he could see his father apologizing. He stood up and ran towards his father. He gripped his shoulders and continued to cry.
"What did you do to my mother?!"
He didn't know what to feel anymore. He didn't know what to do. Fury, sorrow, misery, longing of his mother, hatred. That was all he could feel. His brothers came down and saw what had happened.
All of them were in tears, wishing that none of it was true. Thinking that it was all just a nightmare. Seokjin didn't want to believe it. He knew he would never want to believe it. Starring back at his father, he quickly stood up and backed up to his brothers afraid that they were the next ones to be harmed.
Seokjin grabbed his brothers' hands and ran up the stairs taking the phone with him. He slammed the door shut and locked it. He could hear his father's banging from the other side of the door but he didn't care. His only priority was to keep his brothers safe and unharmed.
