"So, Emma. Excited for school?"I looked over at my mother, who was scrolling through social media on her phone. She only tried to start a conversation with me because she thought it was cool.
"Uh, I guess so." I mumbled through a mouth of cereal.
I watched as my mother opened her mouth to say something, before my father came crashing down the stairs. "Honey, have you heard?!"
He seemed.. Worried.
"About? What is it, love?" Mother replied, for the first time this morning, she placed her phone down.
I rolled my eyes, continuing to eat my food. It was probably some stupid political thing.
"The government have fucked up, again. They've let out some.. beasts? I don't know what to call them but.. Look, just look." My father was using many gestures, as he quickly picked up the television remote.
Switching on the TV, we all stared into the screen, like we had never seen anything like it, and it was true. We've never seen anything that was on TV like this before.
"THE GOVERNMENT HAVE SENT OUT A WARNING, FOR ALL CIVILIANS TO STAY PUT IN THEIR HOMES, AND TO NOT LEAVE. I REPEAT, TO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOME. O-OH DEAR LORD—"
My parents stared in disbelief as the camera got cut out, causing the channel we were on to go offline. It was sketchy, on what was happening, and even I, admittedly, was partially freaked out.
"I'm going to lock doors, Nicole, you go into our room and hide Emma and yourself. Or just, do something!" My father swung round, instantly running to every door and window, shutting and locking them, as my mother dragged me out of the chair I was comfortable in, and pulled me up our stair way.
"..Mom, what's going on?" I built up the nerve to ask, as I placed myself in the corner of the room.
"I.. I don't know sweety, but you stay put, alright?" It was like a dream, everyone being worried and scared, but instead, it was real..
"Okay.." Was the only word that could slip through my dry lips.
Bringing my legs up against my chest, I felt my phone dig into my thigh. Maybe social media might have an explanation..
My first thought was to message my friends, and see what was going on.
I felt my phone jolt and spaz in my hand, as the vibration went off, due to at least a million notifications appearing, like magic. One message caught my eye, however.
It was from a really close friend of mine. Her name was Annie.
Her message sent me into shock..
'ZOMBIES EMMA, OMG LE'
I assumed her message got cut off, and.. Zombies? Pfft. Sure. They're fiction, and everyone knows you gotta hit them in the head, or take it clean off. So, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, wouldn't it have ended now?
Wrong.

It's been a few years since everything started. How did I escape this mad crap?.. Well, I ran for the streets. I was on my feet almost 24/7 until I approached a house. I opened the door, which surprisingly wasn't locked.
Nobody was inside, so I took this.. 'house' as a way to stay and be safe. Every time I needed food or water I took the opportunity to go out at night. Why night? Well, let me explain.
Those.. creatures, die in the moonlight. It confuses me as to why, but, they simply just, fall apart.
It's been a long.. Few years..
