A deep cold settled over the manor, the cold souther night descended upon the land, icicles dripping from the tree branches like lace but the hearth in Seraphine's quarters kept her warm as she prepared for bed. She ran a comb through her hair, dark as the night outside, working out the tangles as they snagged on the comb.
The door to her room creaks open and suddenly two armored arms wrap lightly around her waist, startling her slightly. Panic sent her heart fluttering like the wings of a hummingbird before she turned around to see the dew-eyed look in her lovers eyes. She giggled as her heart flutrered for a completely diffrent reason.
"My goodness you gave me quite a fright! Have you spoken to the devil because You've gotten quite bold these days." She says. Cedric chuckled, voice like crackling logs in a fire as he nuzzled his nose into her cheek. It was cold and red, he had been outside on watch, the brutality of the southern winter on full display as the wind whipped snowflakes around him in a frenzied dance, when he was struck with a sudden need to see his love.
"Hmm. You know, I think I may have spoken to the devil earlier today. It's funny though," he pulled back to look at her, mirth in his face as he looked at the elven maiden, soft-cheeked and bright-eyed.
"The devil looked an awful lot like you." Seraphine stared at him a moment before swatting him lightly on the arm. A blush took over her fair features and Cedric couldn't help but wonder how far down it actually went.
"How charming of you." She giggled.
"but what are you doing here? Are you not supposed to be on watch right now?""Aye, but i thought I'd come visit you instead. Steal you away like a theif in the night." He took a step back, voice full of mischief. "Would you like a head start?"
Laughter bubbled up from Seraphine's mouth as she wriggled around Cedric and out the door of her chambers. The floors were freezing beneath her bare feet, but she was filled with too much warmth in her heart to care. She giggled as Cedric chased her. He was definitely fast enough to catch her, training in the guard making him as capable as any soldier out there, but he was letting the chase drag on, letting Seraphine have her fun running about the manor.
His chest filled up with love as her giggles echoed down the corridors, her raven hair bouncing around her shoulders, eyes sparkling as she turns around to see if he is still trailing after her. She trips, hip checking a table as she careens around a corner knocking a vase to the floor. It shatters into shards as it hits the floor but Seraphine just hops gracefully over it, laughing maniacally at the apalled sound Cedric makes as she continues running. A door swings open at the end of the hallway as a maid walks out.
"What on earth?" Seraphine runs past, hair whipping the maid in the face as she passes by Cedric hot on her tail. The maid sighs, a faint smile on her face as she moves to clean up the shards.
Seraphine knew she probably should have attempted to keep the noise level down but she couldn't contain the happiness, the giddiness she felt while trying to keep out of Cedric's reach. She realized she made a wrong turn too late when she was faced with the door leading out to the gardens. The only way out was through that door. She pushed her back against the door as Cedric slowed to a leisurely walk eyes soft in the moon light.
"No where left to run. Looks like I've got you cornered." Seraphine smirked as she reached out behind her, taking a deep breath before she opens the door and runs out into the snow. Cedric gives a squawk of suprise before follow her outside, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, ending the chase before she could get too far.
"Aye, you must be the devil because no sane person would walk out in this cold in nothing but their night wear!" He removes his cloak setting it around her shoulders and pulling the cloack over her head. Her nose is already turning red and she giggles as he lifts her into his arms, one arm under her knees the other on the small of her back. She wraps her arms around Cedric's neck as he carries her back inside, sighing happily as the heat from inside warms her up.
"Hm maybe. What would your patron say about you chasing the devil around in the dark?" She bats her eyelashes at him innocently. Cedric gives a deep laugh, shaking with the force of it as he tries not to drop Seraphine. He give her a peck on the lips before he continues carrying her toward her bed chambers.
"I'm sure they'd make an exception for you." The rest of the night is spent in front of the hearth, eyes full of hope and hearts full of love.
