Summer stood on the platform in front of the office outside. She felt so superior to the whole crew.

"Hank Johnson."

One by one she handed out white envelopes with paychecks inside. The crew was paid every other week.

Her black denim jeans were warm with her brown leather combat boots and black Bowen&Bowen Timber Company sweatshirt.

The cool September air pushed against her.

"Jack Bowen." She called with little enthusiasm. She was still stiff with her brothers from this morning.

Jack came forward and took his envelope from her outstretched hand. He looked up at her but Summer refused to make eye contact.

"Evan Bowen." Evan did the same.

"Logan Bowen." Logan was in the front row and stepped forward. He took his right hand and excepted the envelope and with his left he grabbed Summer's wrist and gently tugged her forward.

"I'm sorry." He whispered up to her and let go.

Summer smiled down at him and pulled back. "Glenn Rodgers."

She finished up the paychecks and let the men go for the weekend. As she headed up the stairs to the office she was stopped by a familiar voice.

"Summer!" Logan bounded up the stairs after her. "Look, I'm really sorry about this morning. We were out of line. Can I make it up to you?" Logan's blue eyes shimmered with hope.

Summer pivoted to face him. She placed her hands on her size 8 hips. "We better be talking you buying me an outrageously expensive outfit and matching Prada heels that I will never wear. Or you getting me a hot date at some five star restaurant that only serves those little baby sized portions. Or renting out a whole laser tag arena for the kids at the children's home to go have fun whenever they want."

Logan blinked. "Bitter, aren't we?"

"Ya, think?"

"Actually, I was wondering if you want to come with Hope and I to the parade this Sunday afternoon? Have lunch? See the wagons?"

Summer squinted. "Sure. But only because I like Hope."

Logan smiled, "love you, Summer."

"Thanks, Logan." She turned and walked up the rest of the way.

Acting bitter was the Bowen siblings way of showing they forgive each other. It was weird, but Summer learned fast that guys weren't into apologies. And she was fine with that.
