(Emma's pov)
Ethan's eyes met mine in a way that I hadn't seen for months. They had a sparkle to them and it made me melt a little bit on the inside.
The last couple of months had been rough, with the whole scandal about James Charles. Now whenever anyone mentions his name the room goes silent in an awkward, but sad way.
And more than a few times Ethan had called me at 2 in the morning, crying.
He missed his dad. I never once questioned it, jumping in my car and driving to him. Staying the night with his arms around me.
I guess that's what being a good girlfriend is.
Suddenly it got better. He smiled much more and he laughed at my stupid ass jokes in the way that we used too when we first had crushes on each other.
"Emma?" He asks, he's driving down melrose on a warm summer night and the lights reflect on his eyes.
"Yeah?" I answer. I must have been staring. "Sorry-I was just thinking."
He chuckled. "You weren't talking, I was worried for a second. That's not like you."
I smiled and playfully hit his arm. It stayed silent for a second before I grabbed his hand and interlaced it between mine. Longing for some contact from him.
"What were you thinking about?" He asked, curiously.
I rolled my eyes. "Whatta you think?"
"Let me guess....me."
I nodded, smirking at him and his eyes locked with mine for a second. He smiled.
"Hey, eyes on the road." I said, a hint of sass in my voice.
"Sorry." He blushes. "You look pretty."
That makes me smile.
"Thanks" I say back, squeezing his hand. "I try, I guess."
We pull up to the view that overlooks a part of the city and we both admire it for a second.
Even though it's so bright we can slightly see the stars and the city lights seem to reach for miles.
"Thanks for brining me up here, even though it's.." I glance at my phone. "2:13 in the morning."
He laughs and brings my fingers up to his mouth, kissing my knuckles.
I stare at him in awe. The man I love, it's been so long and we have been through so much and I just-
"Emma." He whispers. He drops my hand and reaches into his pocket.
What is... in there?
A wedding ring?
Oh, shit.
I kinda laugh at my thoughts, thinking how silly and...crazy that would be when we are only 18.
"I got you something." He smiles brightly. "Close your eyes."
I smile and close my eyelids.
"Ethan..." I sigh, feeling my heart melt. "Your so sweet, is today a special occasion or something?"
We both laugh slightly and I feel a cool metal chain on the palm of my hand.
I know he is smiling brightly.
"Open your eyes."
I stare at the necklace in my hands and gasp. It's so pretty and simple. He knows what I like. It's a silver chain with a simple silver lock charm on it.
"Ethan. Thank you so much, I love it." I reach up and press a soft kiss to his mouth as we both smile.
"Let me put it on."
He brushes my hair to the side and clasps the necklace around my neck. "Gorgeous." He mutters under his breath.
"Baby, I just wanted to get you something to say thank you for all that you do and have done for me these past months. I know it's been hard, but your always there for me and I love you for it." He says softly.
My eyes meet his in the dim light from the city outside the Jeep.
"Ethan." I say softly. "You don't have to get me anything. I will always be there. In the rain, in the middle of the night, when your hurt or sick or scared, whenever." I sigh. Wishing I knew how to say more romantic things like they did in movies.
He smiles at me and my worries fade away. Leaning in slightly our lips are inches away from each other's.
"Ethan." I whisper. "I love you."
My let out a breathe as he kisses my lips and I smile, climbing over the seat and into his lap.
My eyes fall close and he kisses my neck.
And I don't think we will sleep much tonight.
