The Ultimate FUTO Experience
Part One
It was just like every other day in FUTO; stress was at maximum, the noise was excessive, everything was hot; The atmosphere, the lecture halls, the road, the girls... Everything.
Hot, hot flipping hot.
I couldn't wait to be home, in my most comfy shorts, walking my dog, instead of sitting with half my butt on a rickety chair, straining to hear the lecturer.
I walked into the extension for the school of sciences and instantly veered to the left side where most of my departmental mates enjoyed to sit becauseit was as far away from the lecturer as possible... Go math department!
For some reason the lecture hadn't started, But everyone was talking, in small and big groups, departments chattering about something I wasn't aware of. My friend Nonso, or Gta as I call him stood at the center of one of such gatherings, narrating a story that had people so spellbound. Upon listening, I realized that everyone was talking about the protest going on at the senate. I allowed him to finish his speech before I pulled him to the side and asked the all important question which everyone wanted the answer to.
"So lectures are canceled for today, yeah?"
"Guy, see what you're saying. Guys are raiding ICT and senate building as we speak. They've chased the Vc and his people out of the building. Me, I'm heading to ICT to see if I can carry anything.'
"Guy, free lappy go dey that side oh."
I gave Gta my award winning grin. The same one I gave him when he suggested we mug that hundred level student, the same grin I gave him when he asked me to flirt with his babe while he cheated in the opposite house. The grin that agreed to every evil plan we thought up. Don't let me smile at you.
We got to the building and saw a few people milking it for whatever they could already. The glass had been broken by rocks, the door had been torn off its hinges, a car had been overturned, there was a zombie eating somebody next to the small fire coming from the steel drum. Just kidding, I watch too much walking dead. ICT was your classic site after a riot hit it, students  were already carting computers out, so it wasn't much of a surprise when we got in and found the place stripped, and I mean stripped.
I scanned the room, ready to give up, until I spotted a UPS, but I realized as soon as I picked it up that I was not going to survive carrying 20 pounds to umuchima. Don't judge me, I'm lazy. I turned to find a fight had started behind me, two men were tussling on the ground. The younger one of the two lifted his opponent off the ground by his two feet and slammed him on a table, breaking it to splinters. The man on the floor wore a suit, but what I found funny was the look on his face when he got punched flush across the jaw. He looked funny cause, I don't know, maybe I'm a bad person and enjoy laughing at the misfortune of others?
The guy in a suit and tie stomped into his gut, throwing his adversary backwards. He jumped to his feet and did a headfirst dive at the younger man, knocking him into the floor. A small black metal device flew out the hands of the younger guy towards me. Suit and tie climbed on top him and delivered lefts and rights, softening the face of his opponent.
A small part of me wanted to break them up, but the metal device that was causing the tussle caught my attention. I picked it up without either of them noticing. I guessed it was a hard drive, and it was light weight so I would work with that. I stuck it in my pocket and left the building, looking for Gta.
Gta was nowhere to be found, and when I got outside, I discovered why.
Task force, in all their glory had arrived. And yes, they where firing tear gas at the crowd and bullets into the air. Or at least that's what I hoped they where doing. The gas began to sting my eyes and I immediately remembered my training ... And by training I mean what Bear Grylls taught me from ultimate survival. An abandoned shop nearby had a cooler on the floor next to it. I opened it and took a few sachets of water, I opened one up and poured its contents into my handkerchief, dousing it to its limits before wrapping it around my eyes, nose and mouth. I put the rest in my bag and began to run because everyone was doing it and the shots where getting closer.
I tripped over someone and cursed my luck. I lifted the hanky to see a girl on the floor. Apparently she had tripped over something too. I helped her to her feet and gave her a piece of clothe from my bag so she could shield her senses from being assaulted by the gas. Now I should have mentioned that it was my shoerag that I had given her, but she didn't seem to care at the moment.
I dragged her along as much as I could away from the gas and gunfire towards umuchima. Once we were off campus, we took off our costumes and tried to breathe in fresh air, thank God for making oxygen free.
"Are you okay?" the girl asked me. I nodded when I had my breath in control.
"I have to get to eziobodo. That's where my lodge is."
"What? No. You can't go back into school. They'll be doing a mass arrest. If you go back in, they'll catch you."
She turned and looked the way we came, revealing the booty and dear lord this pirate would not let that pass him by.
"You can sleep at my place, hopefully by tomorrow things will be calmer and maybe you can go home."
"I hope so. I can't stay at umuchima, this dangerous place."
"No, this place is safe. What just happened at ICT is just another Tuesday for us."
She laughed, I smiled.
"I'm Dexter."
"Queen, nice to meet you."

Dexter Alex.
